Principal's Ponderings
From our Principal - Mr Chad Smit
It is hard to believe we are already entering our final term of the school year. What an amazing journey we have had so far! This week, as we embark on this new school term, I want to reflect on, honesty.
Honesty is a cornerstone of our relationships and community. It is not just about telling the truth when it is easy but also about being truthful when it is tough, when it feels like it could cost us something. But in those moments, honesty builds trust and lifts us all higher.
The Bible reminds us of the value of truth in Ephesians 4:15, where Paul says, Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.'
This verse beautifully highlights that truth, when spoken with love, helps us grow, not only as individuals but as a united body in Christ. It is a reminder that our honesty must always be rooted in love and kindness, never in the desire to tear others down.
As we enter this final term, let's be a community that uplifts one another with honesty. Being honest does not mean being harsh. In fact, it means being courageous enough to speak truth gently and humbly. We are called to lift each other up and encourage one another to be our best selves. As Proverbs 12:25 says, 'Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.' Imagine what a difference we can make if we commit to speaking truth with kindness and love, lifting up rather than tearing down!
As we strive to live out honesty in our school, remember that we are following the example of Christ, who is the ultimate Truth. John 14:6 tells us, 'I am the way and the truth and the life.' When we are honest, we are reflecting Jesus, who embodies truth. He shows us that honesty is not only about being truthful in our words but also in our actions, motives, and relationships.
I am reminded of a quote from the great Christian leader Billy Graham: “Integrity means that if our private life was suddenly exposed, we would have no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed. Integrity means that our outward life is consistent with our inner convictions.” Let that sink in. Honesty, it is not just about what we say; it is about being authentic, whole and consistent in all areas of our lives. It is a call to live in a way that honours God by aligning our words and actions with the truth He has placed in our hearts.
In these last weeks of the year (yes we only have eight more weeks!), we may face challenges, but let us tackle them with a spirit of truth and grace. Let us be a community that holds one another accountable with love, that speaks honestly while seeking the best for one another, and that does not shy away from hard conversations because we know they lead to growth.
My prayer for us all is that we will embrace honesty in a way that reflects God’s love, truthful, yet tender. Let us be courageous in speaking the truth, and compassionate in how we do it, allowing Christ’s love to shine through in everything we say and do.
Welcome back! Let’s finish this year strong, full of integrity, grace and honesty!
Shalom, shalom.
