HOMEWORK

This semester, all students at St. John Vianney will be completing weekly homework tasks. Homework plays a crucial role in reinforcing and extending the learning that takes place in the classroom.

Homework serves several key purposes in your child's education:

  1. Science of Learning: Homework provides students with an opportunity to review and  practice the skills and concepts they have learned in class. Repetition and retrieval of skills and knowledge is an essential component of learning.
  2. Independent Learning Skills: Completing homework assignments encourages students to develop independent study habits and organisational skills. These skills are important as they progress through their primary education and into secondary education.
  3. Parental Engagement in Learning: Homework tasks provide opportunities for parents to engage with your child's learning process. It allows parents to see what their child is learning and how they are progressing.

The recommended time allocation for homework will be as follows:

  • Foundation : 10 minutes per night
  • Year 1/2 : 15 minutes per night
  • Year 3/4 : 20 - 30 minutes per night
  • Year 5/6 : 20 - 30 minutes per night

Each level will communicate to parents the specific task requirements for their child.

Parents are encouraged to support their child in completing their homework assignments. Establishing a consistent routine and designated study space can greatly contribute to their success.
