Discovery

We have continued our discovery unit of living and non-living things by taking a close look at butterflies, their lifecycles, how they stay alive and adapt to the environment and their features. These past two weeks have been very exciting has our chrysalis' began to darken and hatched into butterflies. We conducted observations and made predictions about how the butterflies might change. We learnt how to keep them alive through feeding them cordial and maintaining a temperate environment. Students also created research questions and used the chrome books to gather the answers to their questions. On Wednesday we gathered outside the BER and made wishes for the butterflies before releasing them. We have thoroughly enjoyed this unit and will continue developing our knowledge over the coming weeks.

FRACTIONS

The past two weeks in Maths, we have been learning about Fractions. We made Fraction Walls to help us compare the size of fractions. It helped us see that the more times we folded the paper, the smaller the parts got, even though the denominator was a large number. We have also created posters to display our understanding of the different ways we can represent halves, thirds, quarters, fifths, sixths, sevenths and eighths. This has enabled us to refer to when we are completing open ended questions about fractions.
