We have had such a busy start to Term 4. Can you believe it is almost time for Grade 1? The Preps have been showing that they're able to create new friendships, seek and apply feedback and always give their work a go with a positive attitude.
Narratives
The Preps have been spending the first half of the week exploring narratives. We've had opportunities to plan a story that has characters, settings, a problem and a solution. We then use our plans to help us write a story with more detail and information. As the weeks go by, we continue to see improvement in the development of ideas and structures of the texts being produced!
Language Experiences
On Fridays, the Preps take a pause from narratives to take part in a language experience. Language experiences are extremely beneficial for the development of oral language skills, their ability to recount events and encouraging social interaction.
Last week, we made cheese pizzas! We structure the lessons so that each student has the opportunity to engage and then uses their experience to write a recount about what they did, before of course getting to eat them!
We have also made jelly fish using paper bowls and streamers!
Subtraction
In weeks 2 and 3 the preps revisited the area of subtraction. This time around, we learnt various different strategies to support our understanding of subtraction. We used counters and teddies, a number line and the count back strategy to help us find the remaining number.
Time
This week, we have been recapping our understanding and knowledge of time. We revisited days of the week, long time and short time and extended student in learning about o'clock time! We played games such as 'What's the time Mr. Wolf' and Connect 4 days in row.
We ended out week with making clocks! We were all very impressed with how using plit pins allowed us to move the hands on our clock to show different times!
