Term 3 Sport Report

Mrs Kathy Berg

Term 3 was a huge and very successful term for Sport.

We began with State Cross Country where 4 students represented the college.

The student were:

Henry Fitzgerald

Josh Fitzgerald

Winnie Fitzgerald

Jaidyn Freestone

Football

This term, some of our biggest events were the Northern Metropolitan Region Championships Football Round Robins. Our Year 7 boys, Year 8 boys, Intermediate boys and our Year 7-10 Girls Team all qualified for these events.

We had great success at these events with our Year 7 boys and our Year 7-10 girls team, winning their way to the final.

Both teams had hard fought games, with the girls coming away with the win, progressing them to the SSV State Championships. This was such an amazing feat, especially as the girls were competing in the Intermediate competition, with a significant proportion of the team being made up of Year 7 and 8 students. This puts this team into the top of Intermediate Girls State Schools football teams.

Soccer

This term we also saw our Year 7 and 8 Soccer teams, represent the college at the Northern Region Metropolitan Championships. Both teams played well with the Year 8 team narrowly missing out on making it to State. We look forward to seeing what they can do next year!

Both teams had great fun on the day displaying great skills and determination and playing to the best of their ability.

Futsal

Each year our division conducts a Futsal round robin for all year levels. Unfortunately, Futsal it is not a recognised SSV sport, so success at this level is just for bragging rights, there is no progression to region and state.

We had teams in Year 7, 8 and 9/10 compete at this event. They all had a great day, displaying amazing skills and sportsperson ship. The Year 9/10 team played extremely well but couldn’t quite get over the line for those elusive bragging rights. Special mentions to Georgio and Danny did a great job of displaying the school value of Aspiration, whilst taking on the leadership role of player/coach in the Year

The year 8 team proved too strong for their competition and were victorious on the day, claiming the bragging rights for 2024. The boys demonstrated their great skills with beautiful passing, dribbling, and goalscoring on display as well as a tenacious hunger to win. It must be noted how talented these boys are, they all highlighted terrific ball control on the crowded Futsal court, often being outnumbered and finding their way through traffic with finesse and game smarts.

Standouts for the day were Hadi Awada, Aiman Mohd Fadly, Aydin Koldere, and Elson Vaka, who all demonstrated outstanding skill and game sense. Further, three brilliant header goals from Noah Lanyon as well as a double hattrick from Miller Kingsley topped the day off. Not only was the attacking play brilliant but also defensive efforts from Asher Roffey and Zach Burley who hardly conceded a goal all day as goalkeepers. Well done boys, great effort.

Basketball Year 8 Girls

The girls put in an amazing performance at the division round robin. They won all of their games, qualifying for the NMR Championships. Special mention to Tiffany Freestone for the game winning 3pt shot that secured their overall win.

Year 7 Girls Basketball

The Year 7 girls basketball team had a great day at division, winning all games including a nailbiter against archrivals Viewbank. Clenching the game over Viewbank, sees us progress to the NMR Championships next term.

Basketball Intermediate Boys

The intermediate boys basketball team, coached by our ADP basketball coach, Heath Hay, had a very successful day at division. Displaying great skills, determination, teamwork and sportspersonship they won all of their games convincingly, solidifying a spot in the NMR finals next term.
