Year 1

Hello from 1S

Our classroom has been buzzing with excitement this term! The students in 1S have been exploring the fascinating world of minibeasts while sharpening their Literacy and Maths skills.

In Literacy, we've been diving into the UFLI program, focusing on vowels that produce the 'R' sound, such as /ar/, /er/, and /or/. The children have been actively reading, writing, and spelling words featuring these sounds.

We've also delved into non-fiction books about minibeasts, learning all about creatures like butterflies, redback spiders, ladybirds, slugs and snails. The students have discovered what these creatures eat, where they live and the details of their life cycles.

In Maths, we've been mastering concepts like sharing into equal groups, understanding repeated addition and creating arrays with different quantities.

This week, the students had a thrilling experience during our minibeast incursion. They had the chance to explore, hold, and learn about a variety of fascinating insects, including scorpions, spiders, crabs, millipedes, stick insects and more.

Finally, we've been hard at work preparing for our Y 1 Assembly this coming Monday. We hope to see as many parents as possible there to support the students! 😊
