At just 10 years old, Grace Hunter (Year 5) is making headlines in middle distance running. Grace loves running, and her dedication and hard work have earned her a spot at the prestigious 10 to12 Years School Sport Australia National Track and Field Championships in Launceston. Grace will be competing in the highly competitive 1500-meter race, showcasing her endurance, and determination on Friday 24 November.

 

Competing at the School Sport Australia National Track and Field Championships is a remarkable achievement for Grace. This platform provides her with an opportunity to test her abilities against some of the best young athletes in the country. 

 

To Grace: You have already made your mark as an outstanding athlete, and your journey to the championships is an inspiration to many. Your determination and commitment have brought you this far, and as you step onto the track in Launceston, the Clayfield College community and supporters will be cheering for you. Clayfield College's Inaugural Junior AFL Team Makes a Remarkable Debut in the QGSSSA Junior GALA Competition

 

Clayfield College's sports landscape witnessed a notable moment as the school's inaugural Junior AFL team, comprising of Year 7, 8, and 9 players, made an impressive entry into the QGSSSA Junior B Gala competition. The journey commenced with determination and ended with remarkable achievements, marking a significant milestone for the college's sports program.

 

The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by our budding athletes were palpable as some of them stepped onto the field for their first-ever competitive school AFL matches. Their participation in a composite team was a testament to their unity and shared passion for the sport, showcasing their readiness to take on challenges and embrace new experiences.

 

Throughout the competition, the students exhibited unwavering determination and grit, showcasing their evolving skills and commitment to the game. They engaged in every match with a spirit of sportsmanship and perseverance, resulting in an incredible series of victories. The team's outstanding performance led them to triumph in every game, except for a nail-biting final matchup against Ipswich Girls Grammar, where their resilience led to an impressive draw.

 

The journey was more than just wins; it was a testament to the team's growth, camaraderie, and the unwavering support from the school community. The players embodied the values of teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship, setting a high standard for the future of the AFL program.

 

As the inaugural season concludes, the spotlight now turns to the future. The Year 9 players are set to transition into the senior competition. The Senior AFL competition, which becomes an official QGSSSA pennant-eligible competition in 2024, awaits the arrival of these passionate athletes. Their experience and expertise gained from the Junior B Gala competition will undoubtedly contribute to the competitive edge of the senior team, setting the stage for an exciting summer of Australian Rules Football. 

 

Clayfield College celebrates the remarkable achievements of its inaugural Junior AFL team and looks forward to the exciting prospects that lie ahead.
