Intro about yourself

Hi, My name is Aagam and I am SMDP’s current Sustainability Leader. I help the school by looking after our environment and helping to make it sustainable for students.

Over the last few weeks, the Grade 5 students have been working hard on their leadership applications for 2024. As a leader at SMDP this year I have some reflections I would like to share with you.

What have you learned about leadership this year?

I have learnt that when you are a leader you need to be a person that is ready to take on challenges and hard work. It takes lots of perseverance, kindness, courage and passion to become a leader that everyone in our school will look up to. Leaders inspire people to become the best they can be.

What have you enjoyed about being a leader at SMDP?

I have enjoyed speaking to our school, leadership breakfasts, helping all the other leaders with events and most importantly creating a positive change in our school community.

What advice would you give our new leaders?

To all the new leaders for 2024, if you want to become a leader, do it to make a change and improve our school (not for food and leadership breakfasts). In addition, get ready to sacrifice your time to work on projects throughout the year. You need to make sure that you are not only committed but also a role model for the younger students to look up to. Remember to take each and every opportunity that is awarded to you, as this is what you signed up for, even if you don't feel like it at the time.

Good leaders take action in our school and have a voice, so use this opportunity wisely and enjoy it to the fullest.

Supporting Student Behaviour & Wellbeing

As the end of term approaches quickly, it is a reminder for all of us of the importance of maintaining routines and structures to help students feel safe at school. Our Ways of Working (WOW) consistently reminds students of the importance of learning and playing in respectful and safe ways.

Each classroom has the WOW poster displayed and it is referred to frequently as a way to reinforce these expectations for all students. It may be a great time to talk to your child about ways they can continue to show safe and respectful behaviours to others both at school and at home.
