NAPLAN & Students Needing Additional Support

Dear parents and carers,

Earlier this year, I shared a summary of our 2023 NAPLAN results. I have attached some additional NAPLAN student learning data that you might also find interesting. This data highlights the percentage of students needing additional support in both grade 3 and grade 5 for numeracy, reading, and writing at Brighton Primary School compared with the State, Network, and Similar Schools.

Our school is a member of the Beachside network of schools that includes all government primary schools from Port Melbourne to Cheltenham along Port Phillip Bay. There are 19 primary schools in our network. 'Similar schools' are other primary schools serving students from statistically similar backgrounds to our school. According to these NAPLAN results, Brighton Primary School has very few students in grade 3 needing additional support and no students in grade 5 needing additional support.

Unfortunately, because of this good work, we learned late last term that our Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) funding provided by the Education Department will drop from $116,115.63 in 2023 to $26,500 in 2024. This is a reduction of $89,615.63. We use this funding to employ learning support aides to support and enrich students and their learning in the classroom.

Our G3 NAPLAN results reflect our strong foundational work in Prep - Grade 3 while the grade 5 results demonstrate the high levels of learning in grades 3, 4, and 5. This outstanding achievement is a credit to our students, teachers, and parents.
