Primary School

Swimming lessons and Christmas are the common themes in Primary School this week. Our classrooms have become festive wonderlands and our Pre-Primary to Year Six students have been venturing to the pool each day for their in-term swimming. Our Years Three and Five students recounted the importance of Christmas at Chapel on Friday and set the tone for our end-of-year festivities. Today the Year Sixes spread some Christmas cheer with their Market Day stall, selling handmade Christmas gifts as part of their Economics inquiry.

GSG Elf Post

Our Year Ones are excited to continue their inquiry into the journey of a letter and exploration of Christmas next week as they launch GSG Elf Post. We are asking, for many reasons, that students please do not hand out their cards or gifts before school this year. Instead, we ask that they clearly label the front of their cards with the recipient and their year level, post them in the post box outside Year One and let the Year One Elves deliver these letters instead. GSG Elf Post will run for the whole of Week Eight and letters can be posted in the box outside Year One before the start of the day. Please have any gifts or lollies, inside the envelopes. Larger gifts are best brought in by parents and handed out at the end of the day.

Western Force and Fremantle Dockers

Our students were blessed this past week with visits from both the Fremantle Dockers and the Western Force to run training sessions with our students. These were fantastic opportunities for high-level sports people to come and share their knowledge and passion with our students.

Denby Sharpe and Dylan Stone – Tennis

Congratulations to Denby Sharpe (Year Six) and Dylan Stone (Year Six) who represented Lower Great Southern at a recent tennis tournament held in tough, windy conditions in Geraldton. Dylan won the Division Two boys singles whilst the Lower Great Southern came a close second in Denby’s team event, losing to the South West in a countback of six games!

Denby also travelled away to represent WA at the School Sport Australia Tennis Championships.

Denby has calculated some stats for his two tournaments away:

  • 15 days away
  • 10,301km travelled
  • 65 sets of tennis played
  • 32 matches
  • 26 matches won

Overall, WA came 6th out of all the Australian states and territories, and Denby is still the reigning champion of regional Western Australia, winning the D’Arcy Slater Cup for the second year running.

Swimming Lessons

A reminder that we have one more week of swimming. To help our students and teachers, we ask that you label all items – including goggles, socks, towels, shoes, bathers and clothing and let us know before we leave each day if students are being collected from the pool so we can take their school bags on the bus. Caregivers can sign students out from the pool with a supervising teacher near the canteen but must do this before the bus leaves ALAC or students will return to school with their class. Students are to wear their PE uniform for the entire two weeks. You are welcome to come and watch.

Lesson times are as follows:

Pre-Primary, Year Three and Year Six: 12.15pm to 12.55pm

Years One, Two, Four and Five: 1.00pm to 1.40pm

School Values

Our Value for the past fortnight has been 'Respect'. Students at GSG are encouraged to show respect to themselves, others and the environment. Well done to our students who were awarded certificates for showcasing this value: Pippa Daniel, Hamish Field and Freya Hueppauff.

Our ECC Stars of the Week are: Jemima Lester, Max Moir, Hannah Fergie, Ellie Murnane and Finn Mears.
