Term 1, Week 8

Introducing the 2024 Band Captains

Ava & Malcolm are our Grade 6 Music and Band Captains.

Here they are presenting their first social media post as Music Captains. They were very excited and also very professional! I am looking forward to working with them both this year.

Choir

The fourth and final Choir trial for Grades 4-6 students will be held next Monday 25 March at 12.50pm in the Music Room.

Thanks to all students who came along to the trials to discover what happens in a School Choir. Even if you have decided not to commit to being in the 2024 Choir, I’m so proud of you for branching out and trying something new. Well done!

Students who would like to remain in Choir

Parents will receive information on Compass next week. Parents, it would be appreciated if you could please read this information carefully with your child (as I will also at Monday’s rehearsal). Thank you.

Mr Merlino and I are excited to begin Term 2 with our committed new choristers and look forward to preparing for our first performance!

Footloose Fridays!

Mrs Pickford and I have really enjoyed our first foray into Footloose Friday this term! Thank you to everyone who has joined us at 8.45am to celebrate the end of the week with a couple of dances.

We both love dancing with our BPS students (and their youngest siblings, parents and grandparents!) to a variety of genres. However, because I'm so busy dancing I currently have no photos of 'Footloose Friday' to share!

Parents, if you do have photos of your child participating in Footloose Friday, and would be happy to share them, I would love a copy to add to the photo display I am currently working on. Please feel free to email me at lisa.shacklock@education.vic.gov.au. Thank you!

Looking ahead to Term 2.....

Grades 3 & 4 - Music & Art Excursion

Friday 31 May - Hamer Hall & National Gallery

I am so excited for the opportunity to take our Grades 3 and 4 students to experience the children’s picture book ‘The Peasant Prince – A Symphonic Tale’ to life. Performed by the magnificent Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and followed by an afternoon at the NGV, this excursion will be a cultural learning experience for all!

‘The Peasant Prince’ is a story of hope, freedom, and family love. Based on his best-selling memoir ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’, this work narrates with words and music the inspiring story of Li Cunxin’s childhood and follows his subsequent journey to become one of the world’s greatest ballet dancers.

Parent Volunteers

We may require some extra helpers (which I will confirm next term), but if you’re keen to lend a hand at the excursion and have a valid Working with Children’s Check, you may like to keep Friday 31 May free!

That's all for now!

Wishing you all a very happy Easter and a relaxing break!

Yours in harmony,
