Term 1, Week 8
What a busy term it has been! With 3U and 3P moving into the MPR, incursions to cross-country to NAPLAN, we have certainly filled in the days. Not to mention the learning in Reading, Writing and Maths, as well as our Inquiry unit focussing on rules, laws, and volunteers around us!
In Writing this term, we have focused on building student’s writing skills through the 6 + 1 Traits of writing. Some focuses have been sentence fluency (how varied sentences are structured including dialogue), word choices (descriptive language), conventions (quotation marks and other punctuation). We have also continued working through the Writer’s process independently, focusing on developing pieces for our Writer’s Gift. We have been amazed at the creativity shown by our students.
Our Reading focus for Term 1 has also been on settling students into the routine of Reader’s Workshop. This term, we investigated a range of different texts. We identified the purpose of each one and who the target audience might be. We highlighted unfamiliar vocabulary and looked at strategies to help us find the meaning of those words. We are still working on choosing appropriate iPick books that suit our reading level and making deeper connections to the text we are reading as well as unpacking our thinking.
In Mathematics this term we have been exploring odd and even numbers, the features and properties of various 2D and 3D shapes and probability and data. We have completed a lot of great maths work this term.
We are looking forward to seeing some parents in our classrooms next term. Please don’t forget to touch base with your child’s classroom teacher to arrange a time.
We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break, and return regressed for another busy Term 2!
