Physical Education

Term 1 - Week 6

Division Swimming - We had a great day out in Wangaratta at the Division Swimming.

It was a hot day and we were with another Division, so it was a long one! The students were excellent and supported their team members. We are really proud of all the swimmers who make it to this level. It is a great achievement - especially to have 19 represent our school. Chloe Harvey-Breddan won her individual freestyle and individual butterfly, which was a thrill for all her supporters! Ella and Olivia Kelly came second in their individual events and Jaeger initially came 3rd, but a student in front of him got disqualified, so he was bumped up to 2nd place. Unfortunately, the 11 year girls relay won their freestyle event, but they were disqualified. The girls medley relay came third, by a whisker, but the second placed team got disqualified, so they were given the 2nd ribbons. It was all happening!!

We now have 6 swimmers who have qualified for the Region Swimming event. This will be held in Shepparton, Wednesday the 6th of March. Good luck to Chloe Harvey-Breddan, Olivia Kelly, Ella Kelly, Jaeger Saxon, Tully Watson and Sophie Lamont! It's a fantastic achievement to make the Regional event.

Physical Education - On Wednesday we were grateful to be able to use the Euroa Secondary College stadium to finish off our Sporting Schools Badminton program. The students from Year 3-6 really loved the experience and we thank Leanne Winfield, Kim Saxon, Teagan Kohn and Euroa Secondary College. The students made great improvements to their Badminton skills and have really enjoyed playing Badminton, most for the first time.

The Foundation, Year 1 and 2 students have been practising their Fundamental Motor Skills, working on their balance and building their core strength to create a fantastic base for them to learn skills. They have enjoyed jumping, balancing on wobble boards, moving around on scooter boards and hitting balloons in the air. They have been completing obstacle courses and bouncing basketballs. We are going to start doing some skills testing on the KIDDO platform over the next few weeks. This is not a stressful test, the students probably don't even know they are being tested, but KIDDO gives us an idea of where they are in their learning of skills. There are 5 tests - Standing Long Jump, Basketball Bounce, Balance Test, Kick Test and 50m Run Test. The program also compares our students with others in Australia. It gives me an idea of what we might need to improve as a class or a school. It's a valuable tool for individuals and for our cohort as a whole. If anyone has any concerns or questions around KIDDO testing, please contact me.

Have a great week!
