Project Compassion

A hug thank you to the families who have already returned their Project Compassion boxes. It's been wonderful to see the generosity of so many during this season of Lent.

Take-home Reading

It's wonderful to see the students reading each night. We expect that students read for at least 10-15 minutes each day. Please don't forget to sign your child's reader diary.

Water Bottles

Just a reminder it is important to pack water bottles so students can stay hydrated. Also please ensure that we are only bringing water to school. Juice boxes and primas are fine for home, but we want to avoid sticky messes on our furniture and equipment.

Curriculum

Literacy

We've enjoyed getting back into the routines of reading groups. Students have been working in small groups working on their reading and understandings of the text they're reading. We particularly enjoy our word work at the end of the sessions where we practise our spelling. We've continued our writing of information texts. Last week we created KeyNotes about St John's School and this week we are making posters about Euroa. We've learnt that Euroa has a population of 3116 and that Euroa was officially settled in 1854.

Mathematics

We have started our new unit of 'number sense' in which we have been exploring different types of patterns. We've noticed lots of patterns in our surroundings and have also discovered lots of patterns with numbers and counting. We've also learnt how to play a new game called 'Get Out Of My House!' where we use our number knowledge to try and beat our opponent to own as many houses as possible. If you'd like to play this game at home, you'll need a deck of cards, some paper for the game board, a pen to draw and something to use for counters. You can ask your child to explain the rules or you can watch this video

Numeracy Extension

I am currently planning to develop a Mathemagicians group, to be held on Tuesday March 12th between 11.40am and 3.15pm.

This group will comprise students in years 1 to 6 who are showing mathematics abilities higher than their year level of schooling.

They will come together for sessions of challenges and multi level problem solving tasks.

Students will be invited according to their recent PATM results.

Parents have received a letter informing them of their child’s invitation to participate.

Religion

We have continued our heritage unit and have explored the Four Bees. Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Like Jesus.

We had some wonderings about Lent. Lots of us were curious what Jesus did in the desert for 40 Days and Nights. What did he do? How did he survive? Why did he want to stay in the desert? Whilst we can't know for sure, the animation below helped us understand how Jesus may have spent his time.

Inquiry - History / Digital Systems

Our History Unit is coming to a close. The students enjoyed learning about how communication has changed over time. Did you know that Alexander Graham Bell patented his telephone in 1876. There was much discussion about the changes in telephones over the last 150 years.  Then we investigated how transport has changed the way we can travel in Australia and beyond. Our next Unit of Work is Digital Systems, where we pull apart the components required to use technology such as iPads.

Bluearth - My Future Academy

It was a beautiful afternoon last Friday, so we were able to do our session outside. First  we played 'Rock, Tree, Mountain. Then worked in teams to collect beanbags to match our team colours. It was extra tricky because the beanbags were hiding underneath tennis balls.  Lastly we played Windows.
