Level 5: Connect

NAPLAN

NAPLAN remains the focus for our students in the first half of this Term. The focus of our Reading, Writing, and Mathematics lessons has been to familiarise students with the online format and ensure technology requirements are met.

Reminder: Please ensure students have a fully charged laptop for these days.

Inquiry

Students' Inquiry focus for the Term is around Business and Economics. Students have been investigating the needs and wants of adults, the differences between needs and wants, and the influences in people's lives that dictate and impact what people spend money on.

Homework

The students took home their first fortnightly homework sheet on Monday. This year, as a model for environmental responsibility, we have decided to cease printing of homework sheets. Homework is sent home to the student electronically, and also to the parents electronically via Compass. If any students wish to print a component of their homework, they are free to do so at home. There is no requirement to print the homework. Some things can be done online, others will be re-written in their homework book.

Cyber safety

The students have been looking at responsible online behaviours during our Cyber Safety lessons. One topic we focused on this week was the characteristics of a safe password. Speak to your children about how this is done. If they cannot answer these questions, please let us know so we can reteach where there are gaps. Just a reminder, none of our students meet the age requirement to be accessing social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat.

Excursion

On Wednesday the 20th of March, students will be traveling into the city to be a part of an Economy city walk for our Inquiry topic. For this to go ahead, we will require parent helpers. If you are available, please contact the classroom representative.

This fortnights event

Interschool sport continues. Friday the 1st of March against Brighton and Beaumaris North Primary Schools. Friday the 8th of March is a BYE for all sports.

Reminder: Students must hand in all mobile phones and smart watches to the office before 8:50 am. Personal laptops should be brought to school, fully charged, each day.
