Sunshine Online for F-3

Students in Foundation to Grade 3 now have access to Sunshine Online texts. With their own personal login, students can access Levelled texts up to Level U and several collections of decodable texts and alphabet practice.

With their log in, they can access these online texts at home for home reading, which will count as a reading night (students just need to put the title of the book in their diaries). The books can be read aloud or can also be listened to.

Of course, physical books are always available in class libraries for take home reading!! This resource is particularly useful for students who benefit from reading decodable texts. If you have any questions about the resource, please feel free to chat to me!

Staff PD – Maths Curriculum 2.0

In Week 5, teachers spent a Curriculum Day learning about the new Maths Curriculum version 2.0. We spent time exploring the changes, including learning about statistical investigations, maths modelling and developing a robust scope and sequence for their current year levels.

Curriculum days enable all our teachers to immerse themselves in deep learning that will benefit students across the school. A full day working on the new curriculum means that our teachers can now implement the curriculum with confidence and clear understanding.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN began this Wednesday, with students sitting the writing assessment. Next week there will be three more assessments to be completed. It was great to see students giving it their best and showing the Super 7 the whole way through.

Online Maths Competition Opportunity for students in Grades 3-6– Kangourou sans Frontières (KSF)

Inspired by the AMT’s Australian Mathematics Competition (which we had 10 Ceres students compete in the AMC last year), Kangourou sans Frontières (KSF) is the largest maths competitions in the world, with more than 6 million participants each year.

Held in March, the KSF is a great opportunity for students to experience maths in a competition environment prior to the AMC in August. The competition is a 60-minute, online test like style with 24 questions for Grades 3/4 and 30 questions for Grades 5/6, all multiple choice.

The competition is completely optional.

If your child is interested in competing, the cost is $5 which can be paid for on QKR. Please send me an email to let me know your child wishes to compete by Wednesday, 20th March . Once paid for on QKR, I will enter them into the competition.
