Literacy:
We are very excited to be well underway with our Little Learners Love Literacy program! We have introduced the letters Mm and Ss, and discovered all the things that begin with the sound /m/ and /s/. We have practiced handwriting both upper case and lower-case Mm and Ss and we have learnt that sentences end with a full stop! The children have thoroughly enjoyed the fun activities, including making Milo monkey biscuits and Sally snake art and craft.
Maths:
In Maths we continue to explore numbers 1-10. We have practiced making increasingly bigger collections to learn what numbers 'look like' and which numbers are smaller, and which are bigger. We are enjoying several short videos and books to support our learning in maths. We made collections of 10 today, playdough balls and 10 spikes in an echidna. Maths is so much fun!
Wellbeing:
What a wonderful start we have had in our Resilience Project program! We have explored the idea of gratitude, and shared all the things we are thankful for and all the things that make us happy! Not surprisingly, ice cream has had a strong mention! This week we have wondered what emotions/feelings look like for ourselves and others around us. Playing emotions charades has been a fun highlight - don't forget to check out the take home activities that we sent home earlier this week!
Last week the Preps and Year 6 buddies had a fun time creating things from playdough and pasta. Just look at some of their creations!
They also helped choose library books for our preps to take home and then shared some of their loans. What a great space to enjoy a story together!
Literacy:
Our grade 1/2s have jumped right back into our Little Learners Love Literacy program this year, revisiting sounds that they learnt at the end of last year. We have revised common digraphs including 'ch', 'sh', and 'th' and moved onto learning our first grade 1 sound 'long a'. Grade 1 students are learning how to read and spell words with 'ai' and 'ay', while grade 2s revisit 'long a' words spelt with the split digraph 'a-e'. Our budding writers have also been working hard on recounts of their holidays and of their Resilience Project excursion.
Maths:
For maths we've been tackling our understanding of Place value - knowing that digits have a different value depending on their place within a number, and developing our concept of ones, tens, and hundreds. Students have been working with unifix cubes, MAB place value blocks, and abacuses to build up their knowledge of 2- and 3- digit numbers.
Wellbeing:
Our fabulous Resilience Project has had us focused on gratitude these last few weeks. It has been fantastic listening to students reflect on and share what they are thankful for. This week, we took a gratitude walk around the school, noticing the things that make us happy and reflected on these in the form of gratitude flowers.
