Principal's Update

1st March 2024

We have had another fabulous fortnight at WMPS.

In addition to lots of learning in the classroom, our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program with the Grade 3 and 4 students this Semester then grade 5 and 6 students Second Semester is proving to be a great hit! If you have not yet paid for this program, please do so as soon as possible via Compass or contact the office.

Thanks Mrs Dennehy and Mrs Fuller for making the program so great!

BADGE PRESENTATION:

It was fabulous to have so many family members come to our Assembly today to celebrate our amazing School Leaders and SRC members.

Please see the Achievements and Awards page for more photos and details.

Congratulations to all those students who will lead Waverley Meadows in 2024!

Our versatile Business Managers:

A big shout out to Clare and Hollie - Not only do they greet any visitors to the office with a smile and offer any help needed  - the amount of work that they both do behind the scenes is phenominal!

The Finance and Governance that goes on for School Council is always up to date and ready for the meeting and our bills are always paid on time.

And then  - who knew - Clare can also drive a bus (or a truck)! Clare drove our students to and from Interschool sport on Thursday in a hired bus - thanks Clare!

FIRE DRILL:

Each term we conduct different types of emergency drills - fire, lockdown, on site, off site drills.

Its important to practice so that if the need ever arose - there would be less panic as everyone knows what to do.

All our students and staff are to be commended for the incredible way they walked calmly and lined up on the oval at our recent drill!

Sporting opportunities:

We have had many sporting opportunities over the last 2 weeks:

Tennis - With Lum Rd Tennis Club

Basketball - Knox Basketball Club

Hockey - Waverley Hockey Club

These sessions provide such good opportunities to try new sports - see the Module pages for more photos.

In addition - the grade 5/ 6s all participated in the Interschool Sport Gala Day at Mulgrave Primary - see their stories on the 3-6 page.

Meet The Teacher afternoon:

Our Meet the Teacher afternoon was a great success. It was wonderful that families were able to visit the classrooms and meet their child's teacher/s and find out more about what goes on at Waverley Meadows.

Many thanks to Jen, her family and our other parent helpers who manned the sausage sizzle and the zooper dooper stall.

Thanks to all the families who attended.

KILOMETRE CLUB:

All students are invited to participate in Kilometre Club for the last 15 minutes of lunchtime each day. They can run or walk the 500m course and the total for each days participation is recorded. So far collectively our school has run from Waverley Meadows to Port Fairy this term - we are heading around Australia!

Please check out our Important Dates page - to see all Curriculum days etc.

Personal news:

I will be off from the middle of next week having unavoidable knee surgery and I will be back on deck at the beginning of Term 2.

Andrew Noordhoff will be stepping up as Acting Principal. Thanks Andrew.

I will of course be in constant contact with the staff and the school so please email me via

waverley.meadows.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Have a great weekend, be kind and take care,

Meredith
