SCHOOL OF WONDER

Can you believe we are in week 4 already? What an incredible start we have had in the School of Wonder!

Once again, a very warm welcome to St Anne’s College our new families, as well as an exciting welcome to new staff who have joined the SOW community in 2024.  It’s been refreshing to see our new Foundation students thriving in their new space; lots of smiles, new friendships being formed, as well as lots of exciting and engaging learning activities.

Thank you to families who engaged in our Foundation information sessions in week 3. Any further questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your learning mentors, as well as Kara and myself.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

On Tuesday the 13th February was Shrove Tuesday. To celebrate this year, the VCE VM Year 12 students ran a fundraiser for Caritas Australia 'Project Compassion'.

It was great to witness how respectfully our beautifully mannered SOW students lined up to receive their pancakes.

As we begin our Lenten journey, may Ash Wednesday be a time of renewal and spiritual growth. Students had a blessed and reflective day filled with peace and grace. Students across the college were brought together with an Ash Wednesday liturgy.

Water activities day

WOW, what fun our SOW students had on a typical Shepparton Summer afternoon. On Monday, February 19, the School of Wonder students participated in water activity events at the College. Activities included treasure chest, shipwrecked, a water obstacle, the sponge throw and an exciting swim ring race.

Kara and I would also like to congratulate the handful of Year 3/4 students who participated in a few events at the College Swimming Carnival down at Aquamoves.

It was great to see our SOW staff get amongst the water fun too!

Congratulations to Charles house accumulating the most points from the day.

2. Majella (86)

3. Montessori (78)

SOW Assembly.

We welcome our family and friends to our next SOW assembly which will be held Monday week 6 and run by 1/2 LH - Lauren Hall's Pastoral Group. We look forward to seeing you there.

Prior to our assembly - and each assembly week - Kara and I will be holding an information session between 8.30 - 8:55am. The theme for Week 6 is 'Reading; what it looks like in the SOW at St Anne’s College' and what 'Home Reading' can include. These sessions are not compulsory, they are informal. Information shared will be communicated to families through PAM.

Arriving at school:

Please support our staff, and remember that drop off for children is from 8:30am. This is when staff are on duty. Prior to this any staff onsite are preparing for the day ahead, duty of care requirements mean children onsite require supervision and doing this takes staff away from their important preparation time.

Year 1/2 Investigations

𝒮𝑒𝑒 𝒶 𝓃𝑒𝑒𝒹, 𝒻𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝒶 𝓃𝑒𝑒𝒹.

A community system consists of common planning, common priorities and integrated networks of services addressing common needs, and common vision and values.

Years 1/2 went to work this week, designing their own 'Systems in Community', organising, planning and developing. The results saw some carefully considered traffic systems designed using great teamwork and discussion.

☀️☀️ ᖴᑌᑎ Iᑎ 丅ᕼᗴ ᔕᑌᑎ ☀️☀️

Monday saw an afternoon of fun water activities for SOW students. Plenty of smiles and laughter happening while they cooled off from the warm weather, moving around from activity to activity.

✝️ Ash Wednesday Liturgy ✝️

On Ash Wednesday, may the ashes on your forehead be a reminder of god's love and forgiveness. As you begin your Lenten journey, may this Ash Wednesday be a time of renewal and spiritual growth. Have a blessed and reflective day filled with peace and grace.

Students across the college were brought together with an Ash Wednesday liturgy. Our Year 12 cohort also gathered for a liturgy while on retreat in Healesville.

Hats and Sunscreen

In Term 1, it is a school expectation that we are all wearing hats when we are outside. If a student does not have a hat, they are required to stay under the covered areas provided. Please ensure that hats are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

All students are reminded and encouraged to bring their own SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen to school. Staff will oversee the safe use of sunscreen.

We are committed & dedicated educators

Teaching and Learning:

Our aim as Educators is always to improve student learning outcomes for all our learners. We continue to strive to improve our professional practice to ensure that our learners get the very best learning opportunities and outcomes. Our SOW team works collaboratively to provide thought provoking learning experiences to our learners. Our learner assets (collaboration, communication, self-management, thinking and researching) are life long skills that set our young people up to life long learners and to continually question, explore and challenge their thinking. Please direct any teaching and learning inquiries to Kara McCann kmccann@sackialla.catholic.edu.au

Wellbeing:

Wellbeing is a holistic term that encompasses all aspects of a student's life, including their physical, social, mental and emotional state. It is often defined as a sustainable state of positive mood and attitude, resilience, and satisfaction with self, relationships and experiences at school.

Wellbeing at St Anne’s is driven by the themes of doing our best, allowing everyone to succeed.
