Benvenuto - Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

The inaugural year 12 retreat took place last week. The retreat program is designed to allow the year 12 student cohort to build relationships as a group to support each other through the coming months as they head towards their final days of formal secondary schooling. A huge thank you to the staff who joined the students to ensure that it was a beautiful, worthwhile event with lots of positive feedback from participants. Check out the photos and report later in this edition of ilGiornale.

This week began with a burst of energy at the annual college swimming sports carnival and water activities day. Students from across the college engaged in the activities with enthusiasm and excitement. This was a great opportunity for our house captains to engage their leadership skills. They spent the day organising, encouraging and supporting students in their house groups to participate and cheer their peers on. We continue to focus on improving the participation rates on these days and the house captains and student leadership group will have the opportunity to meet to reflect on the successes and goals of these days moving forward.

The annual welcome BBQ was held on Wednesday night. It was great to see the families attending, taking the opportunity to have a chat with staff and with each other. The addition of the information booths for PAM, the Wellbeing Team, The Resilience Project and the Advisory Council were great value adds to the evening. Immediately following the welcome BBQ was the VCE information night, an opportunity for parents and students entering into, or currently in their VCE studies to find out more about the programs at the college and how to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented in the senior years.

A note on staff appreciation, in the current teacher shortage climate, teaching staff in schools across the country are going above and beyond to ensure the students have a quality, continuous learning experience. This is certainly the case at St Anne’s College. I just wanted to take this opportunity to share my deepest appreciation for the staff at this college and their contribution above and beyond. So, if you have the opportunity, I would encourage you to express any appreciation you may have for staff at the college to them - this could be the one thing that makes the difference in their day!

In relation to staffing, on March 4, we look forward to welcoming two new teaching staff members in Roshni and Dinesh Kumar. Roshni and Dinesh are coming from Fiji with their young daughter and are looking forward to joining the St Anne’s College community and the broader Shepparton community. We also are in the process of working through VISA and VIT applications for two other staff members from overseas. Whilst these processes are long and involved – the outcome is a great value add and opportunity for both the overseas candidate and the college community. We look forward to extending a warm welcome to our new staff.
