Last week, Surf Coast Secondary College came together in a moving assembly to honour the heroes of ANZAC Day. It was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served our country. Let's never forget their bravery and the freedoms they fought to protect.
This assembly also provided the opportunity to celebrate all the fantastic student achievements over the past term. Well done to all.
Congratulations to Alanah for completing her 4 week Victoria Police Structured Workplace Learning placement.
Huge thanks to Torquay Police and the GRLLEN for hosting and organising!
‘Tribe of Mentors’ kicked off again in Term 2 with many wonderful members of our community giving their time to engage our VOC Major students. ‘Tribe of Mentors’ began in Term 1 is a collaboration between SCSC Vocational Major and DIIGG Wellbeing creating a weekly opportunity for students to connect with Community Members.
Michael Judd from DIIGG kick started the program, sharing his story, passion and vision for a community of mentors to help teenagers navigate their way successfully to adulthood and become positive community contributors themselves.
The following week we were honoured to host Michele Sayers, the founding director and facilitator of The Mega Self Project.
Michele shared her unique experience growing up in South Africa to the development of The Mega Self Project here in Torquay.
Through the lens of her ‘8 wonders of wellbeing’, the session encouraged students to identify their strengths, develop strategies for growth, and embark on a lifelong journey towards improved wellbeing. Michele's wisdom resonated deeply, reminding us of all that wellbeing is not a destination but a continuous process of growth and self-awareness.
See below for Michael Judd giving a masterclass on Working at Heights. Students learnt how to use and fit/wear safety harnesses, rope grabs and learn what is fall prevention versus fall restraint and so much more!
Nathan Sayers also gave up his valuable time to share his story of starting/growing a business, design, procurement and everything fashion.
This session also led to a SCSC student securing Structured Workplace Learning at Indigo Wolf which is brilliant!
Our Year 10 Outdoor education class have been learning about our local marine life in class and have explored the Torquay Point rockpools this year, it was time to dive under water to see our ocean from another perspective. Students braved the cold with Eco Logic at Point Roadknight, snorkel highlights included a stingray and lots of toadfish.
IWD Bunnings Women in Trade Breakfast – where our Voc Maj crew were invited to come along, discuss opportunities and engage with local women in trade businesses.
Our wonderful Year 9 students helping with Clean up Australia Day by cleaning up the College grounds.
