Assistant Principals' Report

Dear HPS Community,

My name is Monique Rankin. I am looking forward to my role as Acting Assistant Principal and working with all students, staff, parents and carers along with the wider community. I have been in a leadership role at Heidelberg Primary School since Term 4, last year. In that time, I have felt warmly welcomed by students, staff and families and have been impressed with our positive start to 2024.

I have previously worked at Montmorency South and Christmas Hills Primary School in leadership and classroom teaching roles, and my hope is to share what I have learnt in my experiences while also continuing to learn and develop in my role here at Heidelberg.

I am a passionate and motivated educator who is committed to providing a learning environment where students feel a sense of belonging and value, along with a deep belief in their ability to learn and grow.

My goal is to build meaningful and trusting relationships and work together to make a difference and ensure all learners thrive academically, socially and emotionally. I will collaborate with staff at Heidelberg Primary to continue to positively impact our learning environments to ensure all students experience success and reach their potential.

I look forward to continuing to build relationships with students and families over the coming weeks – please come and say hello!

Year 3 and Year 5 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy NAPLAN

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. As students progress through their school years, it is important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

The NAPLAN test window starts on Wednesday 13 March 2024 and finishes on Monday 25 March 2024.

More information, including the NAPLAN timetable for Heidelberg will be provided to parents and carers of Year 3 and Year 5 students in the coming weeks.

Please contact Monique on monique.rankin@education.vic.gov.au as the NAPLAN Coordinator, if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend.

Kind Regards,

Helen Thomas & Monique Rankin
