Principal’s Report

It has been another busy and rewarding fortnight at Inverell High School, with our students demonstrating the many different ways in which learning, achievement, culture and opportunity come together across our school.

Celebrating NAIDOC and Reconciliation

This week, our school community came together for our NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week Assembly, with this year marking the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week. This was an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, achievements and the enduring connection of the world’s oldest continuing cultures to Country.

These occasions also remind us of the importance of keeping reconciliation at the forefront of our thinking and actions. As a nation, we should aspire to stand proud and united, irrespective of our heritage or land of origin. We want to build a community where diversity is not simply tolerated, but valued and cherished, because genuine unity emerges from respect, understanding and shared values.

Education has an important role to play in this journey. By learning from our history, listening to one another and celebrating the richness of our different cultures and experiences, we create a community where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is free to pursue their dreams and aspirations.

Year 12 HSC Trial Examinations

Our Year 12 students have now completed their HSC Trial Examinations, marking another significant milestone in their final year of schooling.

I congratulate our students on the dedication, perseverance and maturity they have demonstrated throughout the examination period. The Trials are not simply about examination results; they are an important part of preparing for the HSC and reinforcing the value of completing a Year 12 credential.

The coming weeks provide an opportunity for students to reflect on their results, respond to teacher feedback and identify those areas where further improvement can be made before the HSC examinations. I encourage every Year 12 student to continue working purposefully and make the most of these final weeks of their secondary education.

Sporting Success

Congratulations to our Under 15 Boys Basketball team, who recorded an impressive victory against Gunnedah and will now host Oxley High School in the Regional Final next week. This is a tremendous achievement, and we wish the team every success as they represent Inverell High School in the next stage of the competition.

Our Under 15 Girls Netball team also enjoyed an outstanding day on Tuesday, winning the Zone Gala Day. Congratulations to all players and staff involved. These achievements reflect not only sporting ability, but teamwork, commitment and pride in representing our school.

Science in Action

Our Year 9 and 10 students are currently in Sydney for their Science Excursion, extending their learning beyond the classroom and gaining valuable insights into the diverse study and career pathways available through science.

The timing is particularly appropriate as we move into National Science Week next week. Science, technology, engineering and innovation will continue to shape the future careers of our young people, and experiences such as this excursion help students see the connection between what they learn at school and the opportunities available beyond the school gates.

Congratulations to all our students on another positive fortnight. Whether through culture, academic commitment, sport or opportunities beyond the classroom, our students continue to demonstrate the breadth of experiences that make up a great public education.
