Message from the Principal

It has been another wonderful fortnight of learning and adventure at Trafalgar Primary School. On Tuesday morning, I had the pleasure of spending time with our Year 3/4 students at Mill Valley Ranch Camp. While the weather certainly reminded us that winter is still here, campers were fortunate that the rain mostly arrived during activity breaks, allowing students to enjoy the full camp program. It was fantastic to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, encouraging one another, and approaching every challenge with enthusiasm.

Next week also marks the beginning of our Junior Swimming Program. Learning to swim is one of the most important life skills we can provide children, particularly here in Australia where water is such a significant part of our lifestyle. Whether enjoying our beaches, rivers, lakes, or the local pool, water safety has the potential to save lives. At Trafalgar Primary School, we see swimming as an essential part of a child's education. We want every student to leave primary school with the skills they need to be safe in and around water. We thank families for their ongoing support of this important program.

A reminder that Wednesday 12 August is a Student-Free Day. On this day, staff will complete annual First Aid and CPR training, along with a range of other mandatory professional learning required of Victorian Government school staff. These training days ensure our staff maintain the knowledge and skills needed to provide a safe learning environment for every student.

For families requiring care on this day, TheirCare will be operating a program. Bookings can be made directly through the TheirCare website.

As many families will have noticed, we are also seeing the usual increase in winter illnesses across our community. At this time of year, we ask everyone to continue following the advice from Sick Bay Sam. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they are well enough to return to school. Good hand hygiene, covering coughs and sneezes, and getting plenty of rest all help reduce the spread of illness and protect those in our community who may be more vulnerable. Thank you for continuing to work with us to keep our school healthy.

Finally, I would like to thank our families for their continued understanding and flexibility at a time when student attendance has also been affected by ongoing industrial action across Victorian government schools. We recognise that these disruptions can create challenges for families, and we greatly appreciate your support as we continue to balance high-quality learning with the professional responsibilities that keep our school safe and well prepared.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of Trafalgar Primary School. I look forward to hearing about our Junior Swimming Program and welcoming our Year 3/4 campers back with many wonderful stories to share.

Sincerely,

Cameron Nicholls
