Consistency Builds Trust

One of the principles that sits at the heart of our Behaviour Curriculum is consistency.

At Trafalgar Primary School, we work hard to ensure that students experience clear and predictable expectations throughout the school day. Consistency is one of the most important ingredients in helping children feel safe, secure, and ready to learn both at school and at home.

Our approach is grounded in the work of Tom Bennett, particularly his book Running the Room. Bennett argues that students thrive when adults respond in calm, predictable ways. When expectations remain steady, students know where the boundaries are and can trust that they will be treated fairly.

Consistency also means being careful with exceptions. There are times when individual students need additional support or adjustments, but these should remain just that—exceptions. If exceptions become common, they quietly replace the rule. Students become unsure of what is really expected, adults find themselves negotiating boundaries, and the system begins to lose its fairness and credibility.

A saying often used in education is, "The behaviour you ignore is the behaviour you accept." When expectations are not followed through consistently, students naturally begin to see those expectations as optional. By calmly reinforcing our shared standards every day, we help students understand that the boundaries exist for everyone and that they matter.

The same principle applies at home. Children benefit from knowing what is expected of them and experiencing calm, consistent follow-through from the adults around them.  Whether it is bedtime, screen time, homework, or family responsibilities, predictable routines help children develop confidence, self-regulation, and resilience.

Consistency is not about perfection. There will always be moments when we reflect, learn, and improve. It is about making sure our students experience a school where expectations are clear, adults work together, and boundaries can be trusted.

When children know what to expect, they feel safer. When they feel safer, they are more able to learn, participate, and flourish. That is why consistency remains one of the cornerstones of our Behaviour Curriculum.

Sickbay Snippets

Sickbay Sam has put together this helpful guide to assist families in knowing when children should stay home from school due to illness. We encourage all families to take a moment to read through the guide and familiarise themselves with the recommended exclusion periods and symptoms to look out for. By keeping unwell children at home, we can help reduce the spread of illness and keep our school community healthy.

Thank you for your support!

🍞 Breakfast Club – A Great Start to the Day!

We are now four weeks into Term 3, and Breakfast Club continues to be a warm and welcoming start to the day for our students during these chilly winter mornings.

Each morning, students can enjoy hot toast, cheesy toasties, warm Milo and a variety of cereals before heading off to class feeling warm, nourished and ready to learn. It has been wonderful to see so many students enjoying Breakfast Club and starting their day with a nutritious breakfast and a friendly welcome.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our wonderful sponsors – IGA Trafalgar, Gracie's Bakery, Baker's Delight Mid Valley and Foodbank – for their ongoing generosity and support. Your contributions make Breakfast Club possible and have a positive impact on the wellbeing of our students each day.

We also continue to offer Care Packages for families who may need a little extra support. If you or someone you know would benefit from a free Care Package, please contact the School Office or speak with Mrs Marslen. All enquiries are welcomed and treated with complete confidentiality.

Donations of Milo or jam are always greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the School Office at any time.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors and supportive school community for helping to make Breakfast Club such a wonderful part of our school community. We look forward to continuing to welcome our students each morning for the remainder of Term 3.
