After School Auskick Program 2026

Trafalgar Primary School has partnered with AFL Victoria to offer a 4-week After School Auskick program for all Foundation – Grade 6 students in Term 3 2026.

Auskick is a program that introduces children to Australian rules football (AFL). It's designed for kids aged 5-12, focusing on fun, game-based activities to develop fundamental movement skills and a love for the sport.

It’s a great way to keep the footy fun going as the junior season wraps up, especially for those keen to continue playing during the AFL finals series. It’s also ideal for new players who want to give AFL a go in a relaxed setting and enjoy a kick with friends.

This optional 4-week school-based program will be run outside of school learning hours (after school) at a cost of $55 per participant.

Sessions will be run by AFL Victoria on the school oval from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, allowing students to come straight from class. Sessions will take place on the following days:

Wednesday 26 August

Wednesday 2 September

Wednesday 9 September

Wednesday 16 September

To participate all you need to do is register your child to the program via PlayHQ. A link/QR code directing you to the registration form can be found on the flyer below.

Winter Sports: Trafalgar Reaches New Heights

Trafalgar Primary School's Winter Sports campaign concluded in outstanding fashion, with our Girls Soccer and Mixed Netball teams proudly representing the school at the Gippsland Regional Winter Sports Championships.

Our Girls Soccer Team produced a fantastic tournament, finishing 2nd in Gippsland after a series of impressive performances against the region's strongest schools. This outstanding achievement makes them the most successful soccer team in Trafalgar Primary School history, a remarkable milestone that reflects their teamwork, determination, and skill throughout the entire Winter Sports season.

The team showed outstanding improvement across the course of the season, with their teamwork, communication, and confidence continuing to grow at each stage of the competition. Reaching the Gippsland Regional Championships was a wonderful achievement and a fitting reward for their hard work and commitment.

These results bring to a close another successful Winter Sports season. Congratulations to every Grade 5 and 6 student who represented Trafalgar Primary School throughout the District, Divisional, and Regional competitions.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the staff, families, and volunteers whose support made these opportunities possible. We are incredibly proud of all of our students and the way they embraced the challenges of interschool sport throughout the season.

Lights, Camera, Action: Trafalgar Students Featured in Commonwealth Games Video

Earlier last month, Trafalgar Primary School was selected as one of only ten schools nationwide to participate in the prestigious Champion Chats program, presented by Commonwealth Games Australia and Play Well!

Grade 1 and 2 students whose House groups submitted top questions during Physical Education classes—along with our School Sport Captains—were filmed asking questions for elite Australian Gymnasts gearing up for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

We are excited to announce that the final professionally edited video package has arrived! It was an incredible opportunity for our students to represent Trafalgar Primary, demonstrate fantastic Aussie team spirit, and connect directly with high-performance athletes.

🎶 Making Music at TPS

Term 3 in the Music Room has started well. Foundation - Grade 2 are all studying folk music from around the world. They are singing, dancing and playing instruments to traditional songs from that region. While Grades 3 - 6 are completing a unit on the Jamhubs playing in small groups (bands), culminating in a performance in Week 6 to their own class.

We are keeping the world music topical so far this year. We started the term in Australia for weeks 1 and 2, learning traditional First Nations dance and songs. This aligned with NAIDOC Week. We then visited the USA to recognise the FIFA World Cup, and this week we are visiting Scotland to align with the Commonwealth Games finishing.

Below is a photo of the whole school performing the First Nations song ‘Inanay’ at assembly.

Choir

In other music news, the Choir is still meeting every Thursday, second half of lunch. We will be choosing our Christmas Carols to sing at the Trafalgar Carols in Term 4 soon.

Assembly performers

Assembly performers have been of very high quality of late, and we continue to start every assembly with a performance.

Instrumental lessons

All our Instrumental Teachers have a few vacancies left. So, it's not too late to sign up for 1-on-1 music lessons with a professional musician that take place during school hours.

Song of the year

We are almost finished with our Song of the Year competition. The final will take place next week. Here is the chart if you’d like to check its progress - 2026 Song of the year - Staff choice

Festival on the Lawn

And finally, we are only weeks away from classes choosing their Festival on the Lawn songs for the 2026 festival, which will take place towards the end of Term 4.

Rotary Award Update

Rotary Award

By Georgia

During the Rotary Award, I have been doing cooking. I have made lots of things such as cookies, cakes, muffins and lasagna. It has been very fun and I recommend it to others. My favourite part has been volunteering. I have done the SES in Newborough, and we washed all the trucks there. We also learned about knots and how the radios worked and what to say in an emergency. I also did the Tanjil Valley Art Show and saw lots of different artwork as well as my friend’s artwork.

My Rotary Experience

By Dakoda

While doing my Rotary Award, I have been baking cookies, cakes and pastas. My family have been enjoying everything that I have baked so far. I have enjoyed doing everything for the rotary award, but my favourite so far is volunteering. I have been doing my volunteer work with the SES in Newborough. Some of the things that I have done are looking at wrecked cars to learn how to get people out of car accidents. I also went and helped with the Westbury CFA where I helped them wash their truck and looked inside the truck and got to see the inside of the truck. I learned all about the hoses and things for the truck. I really recommend this award to others.

Rotary Students - Thank you from Trafalgar Cemetery

Four Rotary students Jondy, Chase, Brodii and Lyla have now completed their 10 sessions of community service as part of achieving their Junior Rotary Community Service Awards across last term. They spent most of their sessions at the Trafalgar Public Cemetery on a Wednesday afternoon during term 2 - organising ANZAC flag displays, cleaning graves, monuments, ashes memorials and vaults, clearing scrub, weeding garden beds, and performing many other activities. They even visited at night time for one session! Students also spent time with various board members, learning about the inner workings of the cemetery and about the volunteers who make it all happen.

Towards the end of Term 2 they planted their very own rosebush next to the site office as a lovely reminder of their time spent on the grounds.

The cemetery board members wish to express their sincere thanks to Trafalgar Primary School and Trafalgar Rotary for starting a wonderful connection between our community organisations, and to the Rotary students themselves and their families for putting some hard work in towards restoring our grounds and gardens. All students demonstrated great leadership skills during their time on the hill. A delightful bunch that should all feel proud of their contributions.

Junior School Council in Action

On Friday 24th of July, we held our ice bath challenge, to raise funds for the Fight MND charity. What an amazing day with so many students and adults dressed in blue. Thank you to all students who donated a gold coin. This year, our before and after school care providers, TheirCare, also prepared lolly bags and fairy floss, which were sold at lunchtime, with all proceeds donated to FightMND.

A big thankyou to our junior school councillors, Daryl, Mrs Marslen and, Megan in the office for all of their help to make our day a success.

The biggest thank you goes to our brave volunteers for ‘taking the plunge.’ Mrs Nash, Ms Seeman (or was it Nick Daicos?!?) and Sickbay Sam. I’m pretty sure not many of us watching would have wanted to be in those ice baths with you! It was an amazing spectacle to watch, and our wonderful volunteers did an incredible job lasting more than eight minutes in the freezing water!

As a school we raised an incredible total of $553-30!!!!

Yesterday was another amazing fundraising effort, our annual Jeans for Genes Day.  This day raises much needed funds for supporting the Children's Medical Research Institute to help fund treatments and cures for birth defects, genetic diseases, and cancers.

Thank you again to everyone who came dressed in denim and brought a gold coin donation.

We raised a total of $347! x 2 = $694

In an exciting twist, every donation made from 8.00am yesterday was doubled thanks to generous sponsors. That means our fundraising efforts will have twice the impact, helping to support even more vital genetic research for children and families affected by genetic conditions.

We are looking forward to a wonderful Term 4, full of fun events.

From your Junior School Councillors and Mrs Sneddon.

💫 Grade 2's Big Night In

Grade 2 Sleepover - Sammi, Koby, Jack, Aria D, Cohen, Kaylee

Last Friday night we had a Grade 2 Sleep over at the school. We all had so much fun and everyone stayed all night.

When we first came back to school at 5.30pm we set up our beds in the ALC room or the Library. After that, we went to the Art room to create this artwork.

Then we went for a night walk with our torches to see if we could find night creatures. But we didn’t find night creatures, we just found lots of balls in the trees! We then did a sneaky tour through the school into the staffroom and into Mr Nicholls’ office!

Mr Nicholls and Mr Beamish cooked our BBQ dinner and we had ice-cream. After that, it was party time! Mr Allan had set up a disco with lights in the Gym where we had a glow stick dance party and games!

Just when we thought it was getting late, it was time for hide and seek! We played hide and seek in the dark around the whole school, with no torches!

Some of the kids found the best hiding spaces and could not be found! Then the teachers had a turn to hide, and Mr Beamish won that round!

When it was time for bed, we all brushed our teeth and then watched a movie until about 11pm until we fell asleep. All the kids slept well, but we’re not sure about the teachers!

The Grade 2 Sleepover was a lot of fun. Thank you to the teachers! When it’s your turn next year, don’t miss out!
