Vermont Secondary College

UPCOMING SCHOOL REVIEW FOR 2024

The following information is to inform the school community that in Term Two 2024 Vermont Secondary College is scheduled to undertake a School Review. Preliminary work has already begun on this review in writing the PRSE (Pre-review Self-evaluation) which is a reflective piece, looking at data of the school’s performance over the last 4-year Strategic Plan.

The school review model supports each school to differentiate its improvement journey by building on current strengths and assisting it to respond to challenges. It emphasises continuous improvement and affirms that every student, no matter their background or circumstances, has a right to learn in a school committed to improvement. It maintains that every school can improve.

The review model:

  • welcomes school community participation in the review
  • embraces the input of experts from both within and beyond the school
  • forges links between evidence, school review, and strategic and annual planning
  • obtains insights from a differentiated method for understanding school performance
  • seeks multiple perspectives, engagement with the whole school community and openness to challenge for improvement
  • celebrates strengths and achievements..

From this School Review process, we will develop the next four-year Strategic Plan (2024 – 2028). More information will become available as we move further into the review model.

2023 PARENT OPINION SURVEY RESULTS

Thank you to all Vermont families that participated in the annual DE (Department of Education) ‘Parent Opinion Survey’ for 2023 which allowed us to gain positive and constructive feedback. The survey was newly formatted in 2017 from previous years and is now released electronically. With the seventh year of this format running, we are able to show comparative data from 2017 to 2023.

This year all families received an invitation to participate with 231 parent survey responses being completed. The survey delves into 19 key areas under 6 domains remembering that the questions and survey parameters are all set by the Department of Education (DE).

2021 - All families receive an invitation - Total number of parent responses: 291

2020 - All families receive an invitation - Total number of parent responses: 414

The positive percentages shown are determined by ‘agree’ and ‘strongly agree’ responses being combined. While there are some areas that need continued work and fleshing out, overall, the responses are extremely positive, and we thank the school community for their feedback and continued support of the college.

Of particular note is the ‘General Satisfaction’ result of 89%, ‘School Pride and Confidence’ at an equal high of 92% and ‘High Expectations for Success’ at 86%. Also very pleasing are the all-time high results for ‘Student Agency and Voice’ at 80% and ‘Confidence and Resiliency skills’ at 82%.

A more detailed examination of the data will take place in a range of forums including College Council, the Leadership Team, with staff and the student leadership group leading into next year’s school review to develop the next Strategic Plan.
