Social and Emotional Learning

To enhance our Social and Emotional Learning, we will harness the insights provided by our Junior School Council Representatives at the conclusion of Term Three. Our students have articulated a strong desire to place an emphasis on fostering self-assurance, nurturing leadership attributes, skilfully managing disappointments, and cultivating resilient friendships as they transition into Year Six. In alignment with these objectives, we are developing Social and Emotional Learning curriculum content grounded in the principles of the You Can Do It framework. This curriculum will serve to deepen our students' understanding of the dynamic nature of friendships, reinforcing the notion that these relationships can evolve over the course of their Primary School journey. Furthermore, we will underscore the significance of leadership qualities, explaining that leadership can manifest without the need for official recognition. Additionally, we will emphasise the cultivation of self-confidence, acknowledging that this trait may vary among individuals but remains a quality that can be nurtured in all. This comprehensive approach to Social and Emotional Learning equips our students with essential life skills and positions them for personal and academic success.

To support your child’s learning at home, you could encourage them to:

  • Ask about their weekly YCDI learning and personal goal which has a focus on friendships, confidence and leadership
  • Ask them ‘How could you transfer this into your home setting?’ Encourage them to take a risk and try something new.

Engage in conversations about disappointment and ‘bouncing back from challenge’.
