Year 8 Melbourne Museum Excursion

As an introduction to their upcoming unit on Geology/Earth Sciences, year 8 Science students enjoyed an excursion to the Melbourne Museum in early October, where they learnt about the formation of Earth via an immersive 3D IMAX film, before viewing a range of rock samples and fossilised remains of organisms from around Australia within the Museum itself. Unsurprisingly, the dinosaur fossils and exhibits proved to be quite popular, as were the amazing variety of colours, shapes and textures within the crystals of different types of rock samples. It’s hoped that this learning experience will pique students’ interest and provoke wonder and curiosity as we head into our final topic of the year in year 8 Science.

Year 8/9 Sport Science Excursion-Richmond Institute

Sport Science students were provided with a unique opportunity to experience what goes on behind the scenes of an elite sporting club by visiting Richmond Institute at Punt Rd in Richmond.

The day started with a brief introduction to some of the many and varied pathways available within the sporting industry, which gave the students some valuable insight into potential career options within this area. Being able to sit in the very seats that the Richmond Football Club players sit in was a unique opportunity, which proved to be quite exciting, especially for the Tigers supporters within the group!

A brief tour of the Richmond Football Club’s training facilities then followed, before the group participated in a circuit training activity at a nearby gym facility. As expected, this was arguably the highlight of the excursion for many, where students were able to get their hands dirty & their skin sweaty with a variety of different exercises, using a wide range of equipment & machines.

Despite the variable weather, everyone made the most of the experience & challenged themselves in a supportive & collaborative group environment, whilst gaining valuable insight into the inner workings of an elite sporting club.
