Around The World in one fabulous night as can only happen with the amazing Mullauna College Music department!

Mullauna Flight23 took off with 135 musicians performing "Africa", originally a Toto Song

released in 1982. Our lead singers Lyssie Jenkins and KayLi Pollard were joined by year 7 band's vocal talents, and together with a combination of the Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Guitar ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and African drums they sent our spirits soaring and set the scene for a fantastic night.

The evening was captained by the flight officers Mrs Newstead,     Mr Brodie, Ms Haylock and  flight crew, Performing Arts Captains Tynan Forster, Sophie Skinner, KayLi Pollard, Vanessa Nhoung, Lucy Gordon, and Scarlett Scott. Ground crew assistance from staff, Bec Holmes, Jess Anderson, Michael Harvey, Kathleen Robinson, Principal team, office staff and students Zindzi,

Tarannom, Angus, Jasmine, Morgan, Abbey, Ada, Cooper and

Daniel were all crucial to the success of the show.

The student team created the concept of this show from scratch and worked hard for months to pull it all together. The staff of the music department are so grateful for the work put into the staging of this show

by the Performing Arts Captain team, it was the most independently run concert in the history of the Mullauna Theme concert.

We travelled the world song by song. As always, we covered ever style from classical German to Japanese percussion to Aussie Rock of Cold Chisel and everything in between.  We were entertained by saxophones approaching from all directions, VET music bands, Stage Band’s Jazz, Guitar Ensemble with a variety of Spanish and Italian songs contrasting a famous American rock number, small woodwind groups and our three huge Concert Bands in a variety of combinations.

Congratulations also to the 8 graduating year 12 musicians involved in this concert: James Coulthard, Phoebe Dou, Kirylee Hiscock, Lyssie Jenkins, Rachel McClive, Sierra Scott, Phoebe Sutherland and Angie Tran. They have led their ensemble sections from the front throughout their senior years.

One thing constant in our world is change, and this was my last theme concert at Mullauna College. It has been my absolute pleasure to lead the team of amazing musicians at Mullauna College for the last eleven years. I thank all the musical families for their support of their children and everything we work on together as a team.

It is such a lovely talented community.

I wish everyone all the best and encourage everyone to continue their musical journey at Mullauna College and beyond.

Sally Newstead, Peter Brodie, Sue Haylock.
