October 2023

Regional Athletics:

It was impressive to see such a strong showing of Mullauna competitors at the Regional Athletics event in early October, where 2 students (Maddy Sandow & Kaedin Levy) progressed through to State Athletics, after finishing first in Shot Put & 100m respectively. Other impressive results were achieved by Ethan Blakeman (3rd in the 1500m Walk) & the U17 Male 4 x 100m relay team, consisting of Hudson Goulding, Ashton Smith, Jack Fortington and Kaedin Levy, who finished in 3rd position.

State Athletics:

Maddy and Kaedin, both of whom made it through to the state level of competition, gave their all at the State Athletics competition at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. Kaedin came away from the day with 4th in the 100m and Maddy ended up in 8th place in the Discus. Both students should be proud of their efforts – merely making it to state level is an unbelievable achievement.

Intermediate Regional Girls Hockey:

The Intermediate Girls Hockey team, consisting of Aya, Kyla, Hannah, Zindzi, Vanessa, Abbey, Brianna, Bryn, Sarah, Ella, Sophie, Ada and Emmerson, progressed through to the Regional Hockey competition, held on October 10th in Hawthorn. Each and every player showed great fight and determination to play with and for one another, however a win remained elusive. Nonetheless, excellent displays of sportsmanship, camaraderie and resilience were shown throughout the day, with this being noticed by umpires and opposition staff alike. Well done for being such great ambassadors for Mullauna!

Year 7 Regional Baseball:

Mullauna’s year 7 Baseball team, whom progressed through to Regional level after winning the Mullum Division competition back in term 1, played against a number of other schools from different regions within Victoria on Tuesday 24 October. The team, which included Hurod, James F, Jess F, Michael B, Axl, Marlie, Tripp, Ethan R, Daniel S, Luke U and Zaden, fought hard all day against other teams and eventually finished the day with 1 win and 2 narrow losses. Pleasingly, sportsmanship and respect for the opposition were on full display from those who attended and represented Mullauna with such pride and enthusiasm.

Downhill and Enduro Mountain Biking:

Henry Walton (year 8) has continued to represent Mullauna at both Enduro & Downhill Mountain Biking disciplines throughout 2023, which currently sees him leading the Enduro Fox SuperFlow Series, with 4 races remaining, which is a seriously impressive achievement considering the fact that some 493 competitors have raced in this category throughout the season – the final 2 races of the season will be held at Falls Creek on December 9-10, so hopefully Henry can maintain his lead & take the overall win in the U15 category. In the Victorian Downhill series, Henry is sitting in 2nd position overall with 5 more rounds left in the season, to be held at Mt. Taylor, Mt. Beauty, You Yangs, Mt. Baw Baw & Narbethong. All the best for the remainder of the season, Henry!
