REPRESENTATIVE SPORT

NSWPSSA Athletics

Congratulations to Kieran C and Lana B who will represented our school as part of the MacKillop Athletics Team at the NSWPSSA Athletic Championships. It is such an achievement to reach this level. This is the last sporting pathway event for the 2022/2023 season as we have now lapsed over to the 2023/2024 sporting pathways.

INTERSCHOOL SPORT

Year 5 Boys Level 1 League Tag Conference 3 Championship Day

Miss Dorrough had the pleasure of supervising our Year 5 Level 1 League Tag team at the Conference 3 Championship Days. The boys entered the competition strong and all enjoyed themselves. Congratulations to Our Lady of Fatima who won the day so will progress to the Inter Conference Play Offs to verse the winners from Conference 1.

On the Championships day, a Players Player Medal is awarded to one student from each school team. Ethan P was our representative from our school who received the award because he demonstrates the following:

  • Inspires and encourages others
  • Demonstrates the spirit of sportsmanship
  • Is respectful to teammates, opponents and officials
  • Does what is best for the team
  • Is always trying their best

We are proud to say that our team as a whole displayed the above qualities. Thank you boys for representing our school so proudly.

Interschool sport has provided so many sporting opportunities for all students across Sydney Catholic Schools and we look forward to doing it all over again in 2024.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL/ TRIAL YEARS 2-6

The Annual School Swimming Carnival for Years 2-6 will be held on Thursday 23rd November 2023 at Engadine Swimming Pool. Any students in Year 1 who are born in 2016 and are advanced swimmers also have the opportunity to compete at this event. The carnival is a fun, school event but also acts as a trial for the Conference 3 Swimming Trials which will be held Monday 12th February 2024.

Please provide consent for your child via COMPASS ASAP. Students will be required at school by 8:15am.

Sport Captains have been asked to arrive at the pool earlier to assist our teachers with setting up. Any student who is doing the timed event, 200m Individual Medley has also been asked to arrive directly to the pool. If this is the case for your child, the school will contact you with a pool arrival time.

Only the Olympic pool will be used and we have altered the program to cater for all swimming abilities. Your child can enter timed or grade events on the day. Remembering they can only enter one distance per stroke.

Timed events are for swimmers with a high level of skill who want to be considered to represent the school at the Conference 3 Trial. Qualifying students based on these events will be selected to represent the school at the Conference 3 Swimming Trial next year. Only students who swim in the timed events can qualify for the Conference 3 Trial. All events are run as finals. There are no heats. Therefore if you would like to be considered for the junior or senior relay team at Conference 3, you must nominate for the 50m Freestyle timed event in your child's age group. Our fastest 4 swimmers will form the team. Please complete this NOMINATION FORM by Fri 10th Nov 2023 if you would like to nominate your child for a timed event.

Grade events are for students who do not wish to be considered for selection but would like to compete against swimmers in their own grade of similar ability.  Grade events will NOT be timed. Grade events will be offered in 50m, 25m and a short distance kickboard race. The kick board race is for beginner swimmers and will start from the shallow end. We will have year 6 students to assist any students not confident. Ribbons will be distributed for all grade events.

Year 6 students will ONLY compete in the grade 50m freestyle and subsequent Year 6 fun novelty pool float. Year 6 students may bring a floating, inflatable pool toy for this novelty event but it is the students responsibility to inflate it at the carnival. Unfortunately, there will be no room on the bus for multiple inflated toys. Alternatively parents can bring the inflatable float and hand it over to students at the carnival.

Changes to the Canteen from original correspondence - Students can no longer use the canteen as per the original correspondence as the canteen is cashless.

Requirements for all swimmers-

  • wear swimming costume and rash shirt if desired
  • coloured clothes to represent house colour
  • bring recess, lunch and plenty of water
  • wear school hat or hat in your team colour
  • wear and bring lots of sunscreen
  • bring towel and goggles, cap if needed
  • no coloured zinc or streamers allowed (pool rule)
  • thongs or slides to wear at the pool

GALA DAYS

NRL SHARKS STAGE 1 (YEAR 1 and 2) GALA DAY

Our school has been invited to participate in an infants NRL hosted League Tag Gala Day at Gwawley Park North, Taren Point on Thursday 30th November. This is a unique opportunity as gala days aren’t usually offered at an infant level.

This is a non-competitive and fun gala day which is an optional event and students who are not attending will continue on with regular lessons at school. We highly recommend only those students who show interest in this sport or a similar sport to get involved in the day.

Parents are required to organise transport for their child to and from the ground. The gala day format and structure has not been released and because we have never been involved in an infants gala day before, it is hard to predict the drop off and pick up time. As soon as NRL share these details, parents will be notified via COMPASS. Parents are not required to stay for the duration of the event as St Patricks supervising teachers are attending. Of course we value parents to stay and assist if possible. We would require many parent helpers at such an event.

Please register your child via this Online Registration Form by Thursday 16th November 2023. Permission forms will be sent via Compass after your child has been registered.

YEAR 6 SYDNEY EAST OZ-TAG GALA DAY

Thank you for the strong interest in the Sydney East Oz-Tag Gala Day on November 8th. Unfortunately we are only allowed to take the first 12 boys and 12 girls who registered due to restricted team entries at this Gala Day. Permission and further details have been sent via COMPASS to those students who will attend this day. Families on the wait list have been sent an email to notify them. Thank you for your support, patience and understanding with this particular gala day.

NRL SHARKS LEAGUE TAG GALA DAY

St Patrick's will be entering the NRL Sharks League Tag Gala day which will be held on Wednesday 29th November at Barden Ridge Sporting Complex. If you would like your child to participate at this gala day please fill out this nomination form before the closing date of Friday November 3rd.

The day is catered for Year 3, 4 and 5 students in the divisions of girls and boys. Parents are required to organise transport for their child to and from the ground. The draw has not been distributed but for your planning, student arrival/dismissal would be approximately 8:30am - 2:00pm.

Permission forms will be sent via Compass after the nomination date has passed and students will form their teams at school closer to the date.

CONFERENCE 3 SPORT AWARDS

Sydney Catholic Schools is hosting the pre to post sport awards ceremony for Conference 3 on November 6th at Bethany College in Hurstville. We are honoured to have 3 of our students invited to this event to receive an award for their high level of sporting achievement this year. Congratulations to Sophie A, Charli M and Audrey P!

SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVE JERSEYS

Thank you for the influx of returned representative jerseys. If you haven’t done so already, this is just a friendly reminder to have a look for any more representative jerseys that may still be hiding in the wardrobes at home. If they could be returned to the school office, it is much appreciated. Thank you.
