Oliphant Science Awards

Congratulations to Marnie Sherwell (Year 6) who won First Prize in the Year 5-6 Multimedia section of the recent Oliphant Science Awards. It is a well-deserved success after it was announced at the Oliphant Science Award ceremony on Friday 20 October. Her creative stop motion animation was superb on so many levels, combining detailed scientific information with an engaging format using Lego brick construction.

Catholic Schools Music Festival

In Week 10 of Term 3, the Catholic Schools Music Festival held this yearly spectacular event at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.

On the Tuesday evening, six girls from Year 6 volunteered to do an extra performance at the Catholic Schools Music Festival, to fill in gaps with some schools who did not have enough students. The Festival was very grateful to have our girls sing with them, and they performed beautifully. Thank you Emily R, Greta H, Vivienne C, Meleah P, Kartia M, Beatrice M.

On the Thursday evening, ALL the girls in Year 6 performed at the Catholic Schools Music Festival. This is an enormous, high quality music festival event, with students from Catholic schools all over South Australia. Songs included I Want You Back/ABC, Do You Know The Way To San Jose, Pure Imagination and a medley called “Celebrating Disney”.

Loreto Leadership Program

On Tuesday the 24th of October, the Year 5 students were fortunate to virtually collaborate with 3 other Loreto schools from Normanhurst, Kirribilli, and Toorak in the annual Leadership Program.

Our very own Martina O’Connell, Assistant Principal: Mission and Identity, conducted this session for us to connect with our founder Mary Ward and begin conversations about leadership to prepare our students for opportunities to come. Our girls had the chance to share and hear from the schools’ how we all have been guided by Mary Ward so far, and how we can adopt her qualities in future leadership positions.

We had the opportunity to hear from Carolyn Young the Director of Mission and Identity of the Loreto Ministries. She shared her wisdom about leadership through a lens of Mary Ward. She sparked conversations about leadership with the students and inspired them to see leadership in many ways.

The students were also blessed with a special visit from some of our upcoming Year 12 leaders, who shared their experiences so far and how they used specific qualities to show kindness.

To end off the exciting day, our students met up with their Pen Pals whom they had been communicating with via letters for the past term. They got to chat away about their past, current, and future Loreto journeys.

Overall, it was an amazing day filled with lots of joy, connectedness, curiosity, and passion.

OSHC Updates

Welcome back to Term 4.

We had a successful rocketeers program where we experienced new activities, excursion and cooking. We are looking forward to celebrate National Recycling Week with Rubbish Robots program starting from 13-11-2023 to 17-11-2023. The motive of celebrating this week is to experience the fun in saving the world. Here at OSHC we encourage children to be respectful towards each other by following good communication skills, helping each other and following directions by staying positive.

I would like to request you to book your children in advance for the ASC to avoid last minute bookings. We are also encouraging children to bring hats to OSHC to stay sunsmart. We always welcome new ideas, suggestions and concerns as well. So feel free to reach us to discuss your views.
