Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 7, Term 4

🌿 READING AND VIEWING

In addition to reading and completing tasks on their novels, students will be viewing and analysing an episode of 'Little Lunch'. They will compare and contrast how authors from different mediums develop and portray characters and their traits.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage your child to read independently as often as possible. Have a discussion with your child about the stories that you have read which have been turned into tv series or movies. Compare the story and the portrayal of the character.

🌿 WRITING

Students will complete a timed writing piece for end of year assessment. They will also begin exploring script writing by analysing the structure and features of scripts.

🪴What you can do at home:

📸 SNAPSHOT: Last week, your child completed their writing snapshot for Term Four. Look out for your child's creative story writing process keynote and published text. Read and discuss their snapshot and reflection.

🌿 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

To assist with the editing of their own writing, students are continuing to revise their skills of punctuation by applying it accurately to an unedited piece of writing.

🌿 MATHS

Students will be delving into angles by categorising, measuring and finding missing lengths. They will also explore the features of 2D shapes and 3D objects and how they are connected.

🪴What you can do at home:

We encourage students to use Mathletics to further develop their skills and understanding of the areas of maths outlined above.

🌿 CBL

🌱 Our Big Idea for Term Four is 'Discovery'.

🪴Our Essential Question is:

🌏 In what ways can digital technologies improve our lives?

🪴Our Guiding Questions are:

🌏 How have the discoveries of digital technologies changed the world?

🌏 How do the positive impacts of digital technologies compared with the negative impacts?

🌱 Students have begun planning and designing a simple app using Swift Playgrounds.

🌿 HOMEWORK

In addition to reading four times a week for at least 20 minutes, Mathletics and 'What you can do at home' recommendations above, this term:

🌱 Grade 5: Students should catch up on any unfinished 'Buddy Bag' tasks and purchase a small gift (maximum of $10). Students who have self nominated for the school captain election should work on their speech and the leadership proforma provided on Showbie.
