🎶 🌈 Prep Concert: The concert is this week! We are so excited! We have been having extra rehearsals to get the concert looking sharp and we can't wait to perform for you all.

The performance is due to start at 6.30pm.

🏊🏼‍♀️ Getting ready for swimming: Continue to prepare your child for our swimming program by naming clothes, and checking that your childcanindependently dry and dress themselves (this is a skill that they will need to be able to complete after their swimming lessons).

🗞️ News Groups for Wednesday 15th November: A show I have seen (eg. a 'show' might be a musical on the stage, a movie or a concert)

📚 Reading

Students will listen to the story, Magic Beach. They will make detailed connections to the story (text to text, text to self and text to world).

They will also continue to practise reading with expression to make their voices interesting for their audience.

What can you do at home?

-Log into Reading Eggs and find a suitable text (remember to change the age for 5 - 7 years old).

-Assist your child to read their take home book each night and their magic words.

-Help your child to read with expression and fluency as they read.

🔡 Phonics

This week we will be manipulating sounds, both orally and in written form, by  exploring 'onsite and rime'. This means changing the initial sound while keeping the ending sound (eg. with the sound 'at' you can make the words cat, rat, bat, mat, sat, etc).

What you can do at home?

-Choose a base sound like 'ip', 'in', 'un' and change the first sound (eg. with 'ip' you can make the words: lip, zip, tip, trip, etc).

-Use your sound ring to continue to practise letter names and the sounds they make. Play some games using the sound ring cards (ideas are on the ring).

📝 Writing

Students will continue their exploration of the text, Magic Beach. They will create an artwork of their own magic beach and write a description (using adjectives) of it. They will also write an 'ing' poem (using verbs) to describe a day on the beach.

We will also be working on our handwriting for letters that require further revision, ensuring they are correctly sized and using the dotted thirds as a guide.

What can you do at home?

-Continue to encourage correct pencil grip (pointer on top).

-Encourage correct formation of letters.

-If your child writes at home, assist them to hear and write the sounds in words.

🔢  Maths

Students will investigate the concept of capacity (the amount that something can hold). They will explore vocabulary like full, half full, empty, 'holds more' and 'holds less'. Students will participate in a number of hands on experiences such as filling containers with different materials (such as rice, sand and unifix) and comparing and ordering the results of different experiments.

What can you do at home?

-Explore the Mathseeds app on the iPad. You might want to choose games / tasks that involve the concept of capacity.

🌏 CBL - Discovery 🔎

We will make discoveries on a topic that we want to know more about, such as sea creatures, animals, space - anything that holds interest for our students!
