A MOMENT TO BREATHE
BY VICKY FRAANJE (DEPUTY PRINCIPAL - PEOPLE, WELLBEING AND DAILY OPERATIONS)
As we reach the end of Term 3, our school community feels ready for a moment to pause, breathe and reflect.
This term has been full in every sense of the word. There have been memorable excursions and engaging incursions, the excitement of opening a new building, the creativity and courage displayed through the Senior Play and Primary Production, and countless quieter moments of learning, friendship, perseverance and growth in classrooms, playgrounds and co-curricular activities.
It has also been a demanding term. Illness has affected many students, staff and families, and we recognise the extra energy that has been required simply to keep going. To those who have been unwell, caring for someone who is unwell, or carrying pressures that others may not see, we hope the coming break provides genuine rest and renewal.
Alongside these challenges, there has also been much cause for celebration. We have rejoiced with several staff members who have welcomed new babies into their families this term. New life is a powerful reminder of hope, joy and the precious gift of family. We also wait expectantly to celebrate the arrival of another staff baby later this year.
In the Bible, Jesus offers this invitation:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
For Christians, these words are a reminder that rest is not merely the absence of work. It is an opportunity to place our worries, responsibilities and unfinished tasks before God, trusting that we do not have to carry everything alone. For all members of our community, regardless of faith or background, the invitation to slow down and restore is one worth receiving.
Holidays do not look the same for everyone. For some families, the next two weeks will bring travel, relaxed routines and time together. For others, they will include work commitments, caring responsibilities or preparation for the final stretch of the year. Our Year 12 students, in particular, will be preparing for practice examinations. For many of them, the weeks ahead mark the beginning of a significant transition as their school journey draws closer to its conclusion.
To our Year 12 students, we are proud of the resilience, maturity and commitment you have shown. As you prepare, remember that your value is not defined by a mark, a ranking or a single examination. Do your best, seek help when you need it, care for your wellbeing, and take each day one step at a time.
As a school, we are grateful for the contribution of every student, family and staff member who has helped make this term rich with opportunity and community. May the break bring rest to tired bodies, encouragement to weary hearts, meaningful time with those you love, and renewed hope for the term ahead.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 4.
