Education in Faith

Eucharist Retreat Day

On Friday 13th June, the Year 4 Candidates for First Eucharist (and those Year 4 students supporting them in their preparation) will be attending a retreat day at Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) Primary School alongside students from OLGC and Our Lady’s, Wattle Park as well as students in the parish attending non-Catholic schools.

The day is facilitated by Gen Bryant and her team (https://genbryant.com). This day is considered to be a fundamental part of their preparation for First Eucharist. Each student will participate in group activities that explore many aspects of this important Sacrament.

Family Led Sunday Mass

During 2025, the Parish in conjunction with the Parish Primary Schools, has planned Family led weekend Masses. These Masses will be celebrated once a term and be followed by hospitality.  They will be a great opportunity for children and their families to be involved in a Mass within the parish community.

Family Masses will provide an opportunity for families to come together and to support each other in faith.  They can particularly be important for families who are presenting their children for Sacraments throughout the year.  There may be opportunities to reconnect with our own faith as adults.  There may be opportunities to engage with parish life and learn more about the faith, for those who are not so familiar with our local worshiping community.  All families are welcome at these family Masses no matter what your religious background or affiliation.

Family Masses scheduled for later this year are:

Sunday, 17 August at 5.00 pm (OLGC Church)

Special invitation to Year 6 students and families (includes Confirmation Commitment)

Saturday, 15 November at 6.00pm (OHR Church)

Prep, Year 1 & Year 2 and new families for 2026 are particularly invited to this Mass

RE Learning in Prep MD

Our Gospel Value is Persistence.

Persistence means not giving up, even when things are hard. Jesus showed great persistence during His life on Earth. He kept teaching, helping others, and showing love, even when people were unkind to Him. He never stopped doing what was right, because He trusted God and knew His purpose. As students, we can learn from Jesus to keep trying, to stay strong when things are tough, and to never give up, just like He didn’t give up on us.

PrepMD have been learning this prayer to start our day.

Dear God,

Thank You for always being with me.

Sometimes things are hard, and I feel like giving up.

Please help me to keep trying, just like Jesus did.

Give me strength to do my best every day,

Even when I feel tired or things don’t go my way.

Thank You for loving me and helping me grow.

Amen.

Here are some things the Preps are persisting to improve on using a growth mindset.

I can’t write a long sentence YET! Clara

I can’t write my bike YET! Alannah T

I can’t do the 3m diving board YET! George

I can’t read YET! Max

I can’t swim too deep YET! Noah

I can’t walk in high heels YET! Kiera

I can’t eat mushrooms YET! Jack

Sunday Gospel

The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘I still have many things to say to you

but they would be too much for you now.

But when the Spirit of truth comes

he will lead you to the complete truth,

since he will not be speaking as from himself

but will say only what he has learnt;

and he will tell you of the things to come.

He will glorify me,

since all he tells you

will be taken from what is mine.

Everything the Father has is mine;

that is why I said:

All he tells you

will be taken from what is mine.’

Discussion Questions

1. Think of all the wonderful things that God has made. How can we praise God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for all that we have been given?
