HAPE News

As we come to the conclusion of a very busy action packed and rewarding Semester we will reflect on some incredible efforts and achievements of our students in the Health and Physical Education (HAPE) department.
This Semester has seen our students push their limits, embrace new challenges and represent our school with enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork.
Our Outdoor Education programs once again offered students meaningful, hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom. Our Year 11 Students headed to Anglesea, where they braved the elements and immersed themselves in a variety of coastal activities that included surfing, sea kayaking and a fun competitive beach carnival.
Our Year 12s took on the rugged beauty of the Grampians and Arapiles as they tackled some thrill seeking rock-climbing and abseiling as well as a visit to the Halls Gap Zoo with a personal up-close experience with a baby Quokka all while staying in the beautiful surrounds of Lake Fyans.
Our Year 10 Outdoor Education students have also had the opportunity to step out of the classroom and into the outdoors with a series of exciting excursions. These included, rock climbing at Australia’s tallest Indoor Rock-climbing facility at Cliffhanger Altona and URBNSURF Melbourne where students were able to catch their first waves and refine their skills with a full day of surfing. All of these real-life experiences have greatly enhanced their connection with a variety of environments and brought learning to life in an engaging and memorable way.
Another exciting development this Semester has been the expansion of our bike education and maintenance program, which has been integrated across multiple year levels. Students have not only developed their confidence and road safety awareness through practical cycling sessions but also gained valuable hands-on experience maintaining and repairing bikes in our dedicated workshops. This program continues to grow and offers students both practical life skills and an enjoyable form of physical activity.
Our Physical Education program continues to provide students with a strong foundation in movement, teamwork and personal fitness. Across all year levels, students engaged in a wide variety of sports and physical activities that promoted skill development, cooperation and lifelong healthy habits. With a focus on inclusion, challenge and fun, our PE lessons encourage every student to participate, grow in confidence and enjoy being active.
We look forward to an equally exciting and enriching Semester 2 from the HAPE team.
