Principal's Report

Tim Furphy, Principal

Welcome to week 9 everyone, a very chilly week it has been! Staff have been out this week on Tuesday and Wednesday at Berry Street Professional Development. I know this has meant Breakfast Club was missed, I do apologise and it will return next week!

Last Tuesday in our Curriculum Day staff updated their first aid qualifications and delved deep into the teaching of Reading and Writing at NPS. Things will look different in our classes next term (particularly the 2-4 and 5/6 rooms) as we look to explore a a greater "knoweldge rich" curriculum surrounding a class text. We're excited to make the change to further support our students!!

Building upgrades

I am excited to announce our main building will be internally re-painted over the holidays. Sadly this will not include the office area (due to added costs). For those that have been in and seen the "patch work" plastering (from where our old whiteboards were) and the not so pleasant two tone 'half orangey-yellow' walls, we're excited to give it a freshen up. This is able to be funded by our "Building Fund" through our communities contributions when paying "school fees" (voluntary contributions) throughout the year.  Thankyou to all that have contributed, it's great to be able to put it to good use!

Dress for the weather

Please be mindful of the cold weather when helping your child prepare their uniform for the day. We're noticing plenty without jumpers and jackets, please encourage wearing some warm layers! This really supports our sustainable practices by layering up, being warm and minimising the time spent of the heaters blasting. We have some second hand uniform available at the office for a gold coin donation, alternatively you can jump on Edu-Threads to look at the Winter range. Our Newham Beanies are available to purchase at the office for $20.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Hopefully today you have recieved notification to schedule your parent-teacher meeting in the final week of this term. Please book this in to celebrate the successes of term 1 and 2 and look towards goals for the remainder of the year.

New website is live

Same website, different look. We hope you enjoy exploring our fresh website!

My favourite part? Hearing from the kids what they like about our school. Check the video out on our home page.  https://www.newhamps.vic.edu.au/

Assembly

We want to keep sharing the great things happening around our school. Assembly is a great chance for you to come and hear about these things, celebrate the kids achievements and have a bit of a chat to other families. Our next assembly will be on the last Friday of term two, the 4th of July. ALL FAMILIES are welcome and encouraged to come along.
