A message from Assistant Principal Mellissa Bell
And just like that, another term, another semester is over!
In week 9 we held our final whole school assembly for the term. Our school assemblies are as student centred as possible, being shared between the student leadership team in terms of content, creating the visual presentation and getting up with the microphone. I have included here the words shared to the school community from our Captains, Abi van Eyk and Joshua Bible.
It’s hard to believe we’re already wrapping up another term, but as we look back, there’s so much to be proud of, many moments that truly reflect the spirit and heart of the O’Connor community. From sporting achievements to academic opportunities and faith celebrations, this term has been one that ignited energy, connection, and growth.
To start off, a huge congratulations to everyone who took part in our Athletics Carnival. It wasn’t just about the races or the ribbons; what stood out most was the incredible sportsmanship, encouragement, and house spirit on full display. Special shout-out to Merici for taking the win this year! But beyond the competition, the way our school rallied around one another made it something special.
Another highlight was our Trivia Night, which brought the school community together for a night of laughter, competition, and teamwork. A massive well done to the Year 12s, who — with the amazing support of Mrs McFarland — raised over $4,000 for their formal and school gift.
This term also gave us a glimpse into life beyond school, with so many students getting involved in careers. From the UNE Open Day to the Careers Expo, and even a visit from Essential Energy, students were able to ask questions, explore options, and start shaping their futures.
In our faith life, we witnessed an incredibly significant moment in the history of our Diocese: the ordination of our new Bishop, Peter Murphy. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of faith leadership and community in our lives, and a truly special event for those who were able to attend.
As we all know, it is Founder's Day next Friday, and I will leave it to Maya to talk more about that. However, it would be nice to see everyone here at school and present in the school life. Some people here will see it as an opportunity for an early holiday, but it will be a positive day full of laughs and a bit of banter with your mates to end the term.
So, as we head into the break, let’s celebrate the wins, the growth, and the spirit that continues to ignite here at O’Connor. Whether it’s been on the track, in the classroom, or within our community, this term has shown just how much we can achieve when we come together with passion and purpose.
Thanks everyone.
