Secondary School

Endeavour Awards
The past two weeks have seen us present the Endeavour Awards at the Secondary School Assembly. Endeavour Awards are given at the end of each Semester to students in each class who the teachers have recognised for working hard to reach their personal best. Regardless of individual scores and results, these students are showing a strong work ethic, are responsive to advice and are always respectful. These students are role models to others and it was wonderful to honour them during Assembly. It was also great to see so many parents at Assembly over the last two weeks and we welcome you to always come along and hear about the life of the school and help us celebrate student achievements.
Country Week
The school is buzzing at the moment as many of our Secondary School students prepare to head off to Country Week on Sunday. This year our Grammar squad consists of 120 students, 12 teams and 16 staff members. This year, School Sport WA is hosting approximately 3500 students from 55 different schools. GSG will compete against schools from Karratha to Margaret River and everywhere in between. At Assembly, we named our captains and also invited all students competing at Country Week to stand up and be acknowledged by the school. We also had a special interview with two students and Mr Bryce McLean, asking them about some of their favourite memories and biggest learning experiences from previous years. The Country Week squad also had the special privilege of being addressed by Perth Wildcats and Boomers legend Jesse Wagstaff throughout the week. Jesse spoke about commitment, leadership and being a good teammate.
Years Ten and Eleven Examinations
In Week Eight, we conducted an examination period for Year Ten students, during which they took examinations in English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science. This was their first attempt at a full examination period and they equipped themselves very well. The students’ experience in examinations will help inform them and their parents about future pathway decisions, including whether students want to pursue an ATAR pathway, given the requirement of formal examinations in those courses. Coursework results, examination results and data relating to the students’ approaches to learning will be available in Semester One reports.
This week, our Year Eleven students are undergoing their examination period and we wish them the best of luck. It has been nice to see so many of them studying together in the library during the day, in breaks between exams and seeing their collaborative approach.
Year Ten Course Selection Information
We also held a parent information session in Week Eight to provide parents with information about the new and ever-changing landscape regarding entrance requirements for university, TAFE courses and pre-apprenticeship courses, as well as an overview of the different pathways available to students in Years Eleven and Twelve. As we move into Term Three, our Year Ten students will be counselled on pathway and subject selections as we look to build the 2026 timetable.
Year Eight Drama Performance
This week, we invited parents of our Year Eight drama students onto campus to watch the class performance. It was lovely to see guests on campus enjoying the work that our staff and students are doing.
Music
It has been a busy week for the music team! Last week, we were treated to the VET Show from our Secondary School students. This week we have a music review show for students from Years Eight to Ten, a lunchtime concert on Thursday, and a Twilight Concert on Thursday night! A huge thank you to the staff and students involved. Music is such a special part of our school.
