Year 3

Learning’s the Buzz in 3A and 3B!!
As we near the halfway point of the year, we are all so proud of the students in Year 3 and their attitudes towards their learning.
During Literacy this term, students have enjoyed learning about Fractured Fairytales and read some terrific texts that put a twist on the traditional stories. We explored how authors describe and build interest through their characters and settings. We then moved into our first novel study called Kensuke’s Kingdom. The students have been super engaged through this story and have progressively built their knowledge about literary devices like hyperboles, onomatopoeia, metaphors, similes and alliteration. The students have created some fantastic responses to the text and built their sentence and paragraph level writing skills up. We look forward to watching the movie from this book later this term! We have also been working through building our reading abilities through daily fluency practice and learning about the parts of words and their meanings through our Word Origins program.
In Numeracy, we have focused on a range of skills like statistics, working with numbers to 10000 and beyond, angles, fractions and duration in time. Students are consistently rising to the challenges we put to them and exceeding our expectations.
During Year 3 Sport 3A & 3B have continued to thrive and show outstanding teamwork during class challenges! They have had a focus on showing our school values during games and we are so proud of their ability to show resilience and respect when competing against each other.
During our Social and Emotional Learning sessions, we have been working to develop our strategies and knowledge about how to be Ready to Learn and what to do when we get to those times where we are finding it hard to be in the learning zone.
A fantastic term from all of our students and they all should be very proud of their efforts.
We look forward to all of the learning we will explore in the last few weeks of the term!
