eyes on VET

Welcome to another edition of Eyes on VET!
VET Connect Interviews for 2026 have now been completed, and all applicants were notified of the result of their application and interview via a formal letter. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all applicants on their applications and commitment to following their goals.
It is always disappointing when not all applicants can be offered a place in the VET Connect program due to program capacity. However, with its growing popularity each year, all criteria need to be closely examined to carefully select the students who rank the highest. This year, 97 applications were received, and 94 students were interviewed. 50 students were offered a place in the VET Connect program, and 44 students have been waitlisted and pre-qualified for the P2C.
It is now official!... The Year 10 students who were offered a place in the VET Connect program are now VET Connect students and should be able to see the Work Readiness Program on their Semester 2 timetable, replacing one of their original electives. Students will receive a congratulatory certificate in one of the Work Readiness classes, which they can include under achievements in their Resumes for TAFE applications and include in their portfolios.
Opportunities for external courses and School Based Traineeships are coming through regularly, and these will all be advertised in Connect and during the Work Readiness classes. It really is an exciting time for the students.
Thank you to the Year 12 Hospitality students who have been making and delivering orders of delicious hot beverages for staff. What a wonderful way for students to build on their service hours towards completion of their qualification, as well as being such a treat for staff when the weather is too cold to leave the office!
I will be on Long Service Leave in Croatia and Italy during the first 3 weeks of Term 3, but I can reassure you that the VET Office will be in good hands with Mrs Jenny Casserly, Mrs Cathy Coleman and Mrs Donna Payton while I am away. I look forward to sending you the next edition of Eyes on VET on my return!
I wish all the VET students a relaxing break over the holidays.
Spotlight on External Course Offerings in 2026
A large variety of VET courses are available to students at South Metro and North Metro TAFEs, as well as private Training Organisations. All course information received to date has been posted in theConnectLibrary. The TAFEs have an online application process that will open in the next few weeks, and the application links will be included with the TAFE information.
Students who are not in VET Connect are able to apply for a course that runs externally on one day per week through the P2C, provided that they meet the requirements to be given approval to miss school one day each week.
Students in a full ATAR pathway will not be able to undertake an external course. However, a student with one ATAR course can apply for the P2C to enrol in an external course if their ATAR course is not timetabled on the external training day.
