School Board Summary - 26 June

Our most recent School Board meeting was held on a cold Thursday evening. Standing agenda items included updates on school finances, the Principal’s Report, and reports from both the Student Council and the Parents & Citizens (P&C) Association.

The Principal provided an update regarding ongoing engagement with the Department of Education’s Planning and Infrastructure divisions. We are still awaiting formal communication, including a master plan outlining how the Department intends to manage the placement of transportable classrooms. Concurrently, initial capital works planning—specifically, the development of a Project Development Plan to secure State Government funding for additional school buildings —continues in the background. The Board continues to hold concerns about the proposed timing and capacity outcomes of this plan from the Department. There is a risk that additional capacity may be delivered only after current enrolment thresholds are reached, and that the solution provided may not be sufficient to meet long-term enrolment growth. We are actively engaging with our local Member of Parliament and the Minister for Education to advocate for more timely and sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Local traffic safety was also discussed, particularly in light of the newly installed electronic LED signage on Riseley Street, which the State Government delivered with school communities in mind. We encourage all members of our school community—parents, students, and local residents—to remain vigilant and take shared responsibility for road safety around the school.

The Board also reflected on how best to support staff in managing communications with parents and students, particularly outside regular working hours and in the lead-up to school holidays. We acknowledge the importance of timely communication, while also recognising the right of staff to disconnect and rest during periods of leave.

Angie Thomas presented the latest iteration of the school’s next Business Plan. The Board noted that the plan continues to develop in a positive and constructive direction. We look forward to reviewing the next version in August and are particularly interested in understanding how the school will continue to evolve to meet the learning and staffing needs over the next three years.

Finally, the Board reviewed the results of the recent School Culture Survey, which was administered by the Department. Both quantitative data and qualitative feedback were discussed. These insights will inform the ongoing development of the Business Plan and other school improvement initiatives.

We extend our best wishes to all staff, students, and families for a safe and restful holiday period. For those travelling, we hope your journeys are safe and refreshing.
