Hard Work, Celebration and Amazing Results for Students
As we near the end of Term 2, it is amazing to reflect on what has been occurring in the last month.
Resource Smart School of the Year
On Thursday June 5th, the ResourceSmart Awards were hosted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. We are thrilled to announce that Lilydale Heights College was named the ResourceSmart School of the Year for 2025! We are beyond proud to be recognised as the ResourceSmart School of the Year. This incredible achievement recognises our ongoing commitment to sustainability, the environment and creating a better future for our whole community. Congratulations to the whole school community who has followed the lead of Shannon Sargeant over a five year period to become the leading school in the state.
Assessment and Outstanding_Student Results
As always, assessment of student achievement is ongoing, with the aim to keep students and parents informed of the students' next steps in their learning. The end of Term 2 is a period of heavy formal assessments. This includes the final CATs for semester long subjects and the final SACs for VCE units. Students also engaged in formal exams, which allowed them to celebrate their learning and achievement. The exam process has allowed many of our students to improve how they prepare for exams. The General Achievement Test was completed by students on June 17th and helps students in completing final year subjects. With all of that assessment comes correction and feedback. Staff have been finalising end of semester assessments. This includes all the results that contribute to the end of semester reports.
We regularly collect data to ensure that we are achieving our aim of enhancing the outcomes for all of our students. In Term 2 we have received some initial data that highlights our achievements. The early results from the Attitudes to School Survey indicate that our Strategic Plan is achieving success for the students. We have seen growth across all areas of the survey. Of note is the increase in the “Stimulated Learning” section of the survey. This is a pleasing outcome for our students and a reflection of the effort we are putting into staff development. The positive trend is supported by the early analysis of the NAPLAN results.
Languages Professional Learning at Lilydale Heights College
On Tuesday June 24th teachers from schools from around the state attended Lilydale Heights College to learn from our Languages Program. The session was jointly organised by Melbourne University and Monash University and focused on how our Japanese Program uses the CLIL approach in our classroom (Content and Language Integrated Learning). The participants visited our classes and then some students from Year 7 answered questions from them about their learning and our program. Our Year 7 students were amazing and honest. A big congratulations to our staff for sharing their hard work and incredible results with other schools.
Central Australia Tour
Our Year 10 students have departed on the Central Australia Tour and will return during the school holidays.
To all of our school community - have an excellent mid-year break. Thank you to all students for how you have displayed Excellence, Respect and Responsibility throughout Term 2. This has resulted in strong growth. Students - you should ensure you recharge your “batteries” during the break and come back for an excellent Term 3 focussed on student learning growth.
