Year 8 Poetry Slam

Year 8 Poetry Slam Incursion
On Monday the 16th of June, the year 8 cohort had a slam poetry workshop in the gym. We were lucky enough to have slam poets Emilie Zooey-Baker and N-fa Jones join us for an introduction and look into slam poetry. The poets, as well as Charlotte Harries (year 9) who was our school’s representative in last year’s slam poem competition, performed their very own poems as well as some freestyle. It was a very cool experience to see how it works and how the composition of these poems go. Then we were lucky enough to have our guests join us in class to continue to workshop our ideas. As part of our slam poetry task, we picked groups or chose to do it individually and brainstormed ideas based around the prompt ‘alive in 2025’. Then we started making drafts of those poems and practicing performing them. Overall, the workshop was very interesting and the poets really helped with the drafting process and we can’t wait to perform in class and see who goes on to represent the school. Thank you again Emilie and N-fa for the amazing experience!
