COOKING
It was another exciting fortnight in the kitchen for our Years 3–6 students, who took on a new cooking challenge — and once again, they did not disappoint! The students prepared an impressive array of delicious dishes, all using fresh produce harvested directly from our school garden. Their creativity, teamwork, and growing confidence in the kitchen were on full display, and the end results were nothing short of amazing.
Meanwhile, our Junior group also rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into the preparation process. From peeling and chopping to measuring and mixing, they actively developed their fine motor skills and learned valuable techniques in a safe and supportive environment. It was wonderful to see their sense of pride and excitement as they contributed to preparing yet another round of wholesome, homegrown meals.
Programs like this not only teach practical life skills but also promote healthy eating, sustainability, and a strong sense of community. We are so proud of the effort and enthusiasm all students bring to the kitchen each week!

It feels like short, but busy fortnight with cooking & MARC Van, the King's Birthday weekend and now the curriculum day this Friday! We have been busy getting all our literacy and numeracy assessments completed for reports and ensuring that we have covered everything that needs to be completed before the end of the first semester. It is hard to believe we are at this point in the year already!
In literacy this fortnight we have been focusing on sentence structure and building our simple sentences from an ordinary sentence into an extraordinary sentence. We are learning to identify nouns and verbs, as well as find the best position to place adjectives and adverbs to add a little sparkle to our writing. I have been really proud of how well the Prep/1's have been working to ensure their handwriting is neat with fingers spaces between their words.
During Maths we have been busy learning about the concept of multiplicative thinking and how to make 'groups of' by sharing objects between groups and discussing what words like equal and total mean. Our Grade 1 students have been learning about 'fact families' when working with multiplication and division equations.
This weeks photos are of Miss Childs and the Prep/1's learning how to code during their digital technology session.

The King’s Birthday Weekend already?! What a whirlwind this term has been. Last Friday, we said “ta-ta for now!” to the wonderful Miss Kerr – our pre-service teacher – who will be re-joining us in term 3 for another 4 weeks for her final placement. We are grateful for the fantastic lessons she’s taught us.
In Literacy this week, we are finishing off our ‘mystery box’ narrative writing piece. We have been learning to edit our writing, focusing on different writing ‘traits’ such as ‘word choice’ and ‘conventions’. Our writing reflects many weeks of careful planning, editing and publishing and we look forward to presenting some at the next opportunity.
In Maths, we have been busily applying our learning to our online assessments, as well as finishing off our unit on shapes. The students have loved learning about the attributes of different shapes, and developed Shape Monsters (see below) which they accompanied with specific descriptions of the 2D shapes that they incorporated. Here's the class presenting their shape monsters at their last assembly, with Miss Childs interviewing them about their learning.
4/5/6 With Miss Childs
In Literacy, we have started to write our own narratives using a range of picture prompts. We are trying to make our writing more engaging by using the literary devices that we have learnt in the past few weeks, e.g. similes, metaphors, personification. We have also been revising our writing by reading it out loud to ensure that it flows and makes sense and we have been providing each other with feedback and then applying it to try to improve our piece of work. So far we have only worked on the introduction and problem in our stories.
In Maths, we moved on to 3D shapes. We learnt their names and how to classify them into prisms and pyramids. We also learnt about their features (e.g. faces, vertices and edges) and their nets. Fun Fact: Did you know that their are 11 different nets for a cube?
This week we are learning about Mass. We have been learning how to estimate mass and then measure it using balance scales and kitchen scales. We discovered that measuring with kitchen scales was more accurate than the balance scales.
