Online Safety Hacks (for Apple devices)
Before getting started
Before diving into these hacks, you’ll need to set up a separate Apple Account for your child. This prevents them from accessing your personal data while giving them their own safe space to explore.
Then you can easily set age-based parental controls, and they can use Family Sharing.
- On your iPhone or iPad
- Go to Settings > Family
- Tap the Add Member button
- Tap Create Child Account, then tap Continue.
EXPERT TIP: never share the ‘Screen Time’ password with your child, this will null and void the safety features as they will be able to override them. This is a parent or carer, ‘family circle only’ level of trust.
- Communication Safety: The nudity blocker
This clever feature protects your children from inappropriate images. If someone tries to send your child content containing nudity, the system automatically blurs the photo or video before your child can view it on their device.
They’re safe-guarded with a three-step verification process which also offers them ways to get help.
If they choose to continue to view the image or the video, they will need to enter the ‘Screen Time Password’. Which, as mentioned above, they should never know, plus you will get an alert if your child attempts to view blocked content, putting you firmly in control.
How to activate Communication Safety settings:
- Open Screen Time settings:
- iPhone, iPad or Apple Vision Pro: Go to Settings > Screen Time
- Mac: Choose the Apple menu > Systems Settings, then click Screen Time
- Select the name of a child in your family group
- Select Communication Safety
Turn Communication Safety on.
2. Ask to Buy: Your digital wallet guardian
This setting is to ensure that you are never caught off guard by app or in app purchases. Plus, it helps to ensure all app purchases (even free ones) or anything else that can be purchased through the Apple Store are appropriate for your child.
The ‘Ask to Buy’ feature will send you a request that requires your approval every time your child tries to make a purchase. This means no more unexpected bills and you can ensure the purchases are age-appropriate.
How to activate Ask To Buy function:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Family
- In iOS 16 or above, tap your family member’s name, then tap Ask to Buy
- In iOS 15 or earlier, tap Ask to Buy, then tap your family member’s name.
3. Parental controls: content and privacy restrictions
Through ‘Screen Time’, you can set up comprehensive content and privacy restrictions that put you in the driver’s seat. This feature lets you block explicit content, and you can set age-related restrictions for content they can view on websites, for purchases and downloads.
It’s also a tool that allows parents to choose how - and how often kids can use their device.
How to turn on Content and Privacy Restrictions:
- Open the Settings app, then tap Screen Time
- Under Family, choose your child’s name
- Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your Screen Time passcode, then turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions
After you have turned on Content & Privacy Restrictions, you can set up lots of parental controls. You can find the fill and comprehensive list of parental controls you can activate here.
Remember, the goal isn’t to restrict your child completely, but to create a safe digital environment where they can explore and learn while staying safe and protected from online risks.

Learning Space 1 Juniors
Here in Learning Space 1 Home Group comprehension, we have been learning how to make inferences by using clues from the text and our own knowledge to understand what the author is showing us, even if it’s not directly said.
We have been practising this by looking closely at words, pictures, and actions to figure out how characters might be feeling or what might be happening in the story.
Inferring is when the answers are not in the text. It is when you use your schema and clues from the text to figure how a character is feeling or why they are acting a certain way - Lincoln
When we infer how a character acts or feels, we are using our schema & the clues from the text - Willow
We have been making inferences when reading. Inferring is when you use the clues in the text and what you already know to try and figure out what the author is trying to tell you – Raphael.

This term our learning space has been focusing our attention on St Patrick. After digging and digging we eventually learnt the true and inspiring story of St Patrick. St Patrick was a man filled with faith and courage.
St. Patrick, born in Roman Britain around 385 AD, is the Patron Saint of Ireland and one of Christianity's best known figures. As a teenager, he was kidnapped by Irish pirates and spent several years in slavery in Ireland, where he worked as a shepherd.
After escaping with God’s help and returning home, he later returned to Ireland as a missionary to spread Christianity. Legend has it that he used a three-leafed shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity to the Irish, which is why the shamrock has become a symbol of both St. Patrick and Ireland. St. Patrick's Day, celebrated on March 17th.
While we were studying St Patrick, we discovered some of his most famous quotes. We interpreted quotes like “ God is greater than all; I have said enough”. We interpreted what his quotes meant and then wrote the quotes again, but in our own words and understandings.
While we were learning about St Patrick, we were also learning about the First Fleet arriving in Australia and then where the first colonies were located. When the fleet arrived in Botany Bay, the location was deemed unsuitable for a settlement because it lacked a fresh water supply and was not ideal for farming. Captain Arthur Phillip, who was the First Fleet's commander and the first Governor of New South Wales, decided to move the settlement to Port Jackson, a nearby bay, which is now the city of Sydney.
On January 26, 1788, Captain Phillip and the settlers established the first permanent European colony in Australia at Sydney Cove. This date is now commemorated as Australia Day, though it is also marked by Indigenous Australians as a day of mourning, symbolising the beginning of European colonisation.
We also viewed alternate realities of what would happen if the British never conquered Australia. We had four ideas:
- What if the Dutch, French or Portuguese conquered Australia?
- What would happen if the First Fleet was capsized?
- What if the British and Aboriginals formed an alliance and lived peacefully together?
- What if the Aboriginal people kicked the Europeans out of Australia?

Prayers to Our Patron Saints
By Gisele:
Dear God,
Thank you for St Patrick who lived to show his kindness.
Please help me to be like him by working hard and pushing through the pain even though it hurts and to show kindness.
Please give me the strength and courage to be brave, be helpful and be caring even though it's hard to be the best that I could be. Help me to always show the PBL values and show my love and faith in you and St Patrick.
Amen.
By Kiyara:
Dear God,
Thank you for the courage and resilience of St. Patrick. He spread the word of God and never gave up, even when he was in great danger.
Help me to be more like St. Patrick by being reverent in prayer time, even though I am not Christian and to be able to teach others about Buddhism.
