 TERM TWO MATHS

INITIALMATHS

In Maths over the past couple of weeks the Foundation students have been following our new program InitialMaths. Each lesson begins with a daily review of concepts taught. This is fast paced and quick! After new concepts are introduced and reinforced.

This term in Number, we have been learning:

  • Ordering numbers according to their size
  • Rote counting from one number to another
  • Counting back from 20
  • One more or less
  • Counting on
  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Writing numerals
  • Ordinal numbers

In Measurement we have been learning all about length and direct comparisons. Direct comparison involves physically aligning two or more objects to visually compare which is longer/shorter/equal length. They have also been learning the days of the week in order as well as the terms: yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In Space, The Foundation students have also been naming and sorting two dimensional shapes. They have also learnt the definition of Area, comparing area and ordering the area of different shapes.

INQUIRY

This Term we have been investigating Science. We have learnt that we are all Scientists and that Science is all around us. Students have participated in several experiments throughout the term and have followed the scientific method of making predictions and observing outcomes. We have had fun learning what happens when we combine; Skittles, water and sugar together to make a rainbow, borax and water together to make crystals and yeast, peroxide, colouring, water and soap to make elephant toothpaste!

CHEMISTRY CHAOS INCURSION

On Tuesday the Foundation students attended the Chemical Chaos Incursion. They had so much fun learning all about different chemicals and that our world is made up of chemicals. They observed physical changes and chemical reactions. They had the opportunity to learn through a variety of fun and engaging hands-on experiments, using scientific equipment to discover what happens when you mix two chemicals together. They even got to take home their very own Orbee!

100 DAYS OF SCHOOL CELEBRATION

We have been excitedly counting and recording the number of days we have been at school in our anticipation of our 100 Days of School Celebration! Each day we add a dot to our counting ten frame chart! We will be celebrating our 100 Days of School on Friday the 1st of August! Please see the attached notice with all the details.

Thank you all so much for your incredible support this term. We cannot believe how much the children have learnt throughout the year! We hope you all have a fantastic time over the holidays and get a well deserved break.

FOUNDATION SPECIALIST TIMETABLE

When students are participating in Health and Physical Education (HPE) and Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) it would be best if they were wearing sneakers or shoes that they can move around in. Please note that this timetable can change! We will keep you updated if this occurs.
