I can’t believe how fast this term has gone, all of a sudden it’s the end of term! I hope you all have a wonderful break and can find warmth!
Our Year One and Year Two students spent a couple of weeks making car launchers, to see if they could test the strength of force. They had three different levels of force to pull their car launcher back to and had to predict what might happen at each level. They also played around with heavier, lighter, smaller and bigger cars, to see if that would make a difference.
Our Year Three/Four students have spent the last few weeks finishing their posters about their new sport that they had invented. They had to demonstrate their understanding of friction, by tackling tasks such as choosing the appropriate footwear and surface for their sport.
The students have spent this week learning about gravity and the idea that whatever goes up, must come down.
We also watched in amazement at this (scary) world record:

Our Year Five/Six students have been learning about how shadows are created. They have watched some pretty amazing shadow stories, like the one below and then had a go to create their own, either by using their hands to create the shadows or making puppets. It has been fun watching them try to create different shapes.

This week they finished off the term by learning about light refraction. They learnt how light bends when it passes through air and into water. We then investigated how Australia’s First Nations People applied their knowledge of refraction when spear fishing, knowing that the actual position of the fish is different to the perceived perception. The students then had a go at spear fishing a lolly frog out of water. They were surprised how their spear (wooden skewer), looked bent when it went into the water. We then had a little play with light, CDs and rainbows.
